If you're looking for a great place to vacation this summer or fall, look no further than Gloucester, Virginia. Countryside, shopping, and many events make this county a beautiful place to relax and get away from it all. Year-round events, such as Historic and Adventure Trails, are sure to keep you going.

In February, visit Gloucester's special exhibits for Black History Month at the Gloucester Museum of History. You can also view the Arts at Abingdon, in which talented chamber music groups will play wonderful piano trio music for you.

In March, come again to the Arts in Abingdon for an organist performance of a lifetime. Rosewell is sure to give you an interesting history lesson, with stories by moonlight from the previous four centuries and hors d'oeuvres and delicious wine.

In April, the Daffodil Festival delights the young and old with crafts, games, arts, entertainment, a parade of floats and bands, and more! April is a great month for lectures and book signings by local writers, so visit any one of the beautiful libraries in the county. Virginia Garden Week is a fun time in April when guided tours take will take you through an historic walk through Gloucester County. You'll also find many art shows and auctions during the month.

In May, visit the Jamestown Anniversary Weekend where motor coaches will drive you through a myriad of events on Main Street in nearby Jamestown. May will also host a variety of workshops, concerts, and family days.

Those workshops and family events will run over into June, where you can attend a Concert on the Green, an historic archeological dig at Fairfield, and a History & Adventure Trail to visit historic buildings that are no longer open to the public.

July will get off to a great start with Sounds of Liberty and the 4th at Gloucester Point Beach Park-a full day of swimming, picnicking, boating and more. July will also host historic events such as a History & Adventure Trail and a Public Dig Day at Fairfield.

August will show you how Gloucester does a county fair the right way, with good-ol'-fashioned family fun. Another History & Adventure Trail and the 9th Annual Crab Race will finish off the summer perfectly.

The leaves begin to change in September, about the same time Quilt Shows come about. There will be a Quilts of River Country Show, as well as a Quilt Code of the Underground Railroad exhibit. At the end of the month, be sure to attend the Guinea Jubilee, with arts, crafts, and entertainment for the whole family.

October boasts the famous Haunted Trail at Beaverdam Park and the Haunts of Gloucester, with hauntings and stories to entertain the young and old alike. Rosewell has their annual "Barbeque at the Ruin" and there are art exhibits and history events.

November brings in cool weather with "1776", a play presented by the Courthouse Players, a group of talented performers in the county that put on events quite often throughout the year. The first weekend in November boasts the Famous Oyster Festival in nearby Middlesex, Virginia, a family fun event with crafts, contests, arts, entertainment, and of course, oysters!

December closes out the year with the Gloucester Citizens' Holiday Parade on Main Street and the Lighted Boat Parade on the York River. Also, bring in the holidays at the Gloucester Historic Court Circle during the Tree lighting & Children's Holiday Concert.

If these activities don't suit your fancy, try looking into your family genealogy for any ties you may have to the East Coast.

Gloucester brings many fun, exciting, and educational events year-round for families everywhere. When visiting Gloucester, be sure to take a ride over to nearby Williamsburg City and the historic sites of Jamestown and Yorktown.
