Have a Wizard Theme Halloween Party This October

Halloween Party with a Magical Twist

Sean Hein
The Halloween Association (THA) states that Halloween is the third most-celebrated day of the year.

Let us see below what we can do to make a wizard's Halloween Party the best in your area.

Theme:

Most importantly decide your party theme well ahead and plan accordingly. Think of having a fun and fearful theme that can make your guests feel that this party is the best of all they had seen. List out the items needed for the theme.

Parties that are held late at night will have grim and creepy decorations and props. Parties in the afternoon will have more cute ghosts or cartoon characters in Halloween setting.

Make invitations:

If the guests are a small group of kids, prepare one small stuffed animal owl with a invitation tied onto a ribbon on the owl's foot and have the owl wrapped in a black gift box. Then send the box via mail or personally deliver it if they live nearby.

Make creative invitations for the party. If you are planning to have fear and fun as your theme, then add some fearful drawings in the invitations.

A sample invitation would be:

You are cordially invited to an evening at Night Forest,

Located at 123 Ghost Road for a fun night of magical lessons and games.

Please come dressed in wizard or witch attire, either with or without a robe.

Paper Plates, Cups, Napkins & Utensils:

Guests are expecting food and drinks when attending any party. Finger food will make up the most of your menu unless it is a sit down dinner party that you are planning.

Unless you are a good chef, you may like to get the help of a friend or family member who can do the cooking or even hire a catering service.

Either way, utensils and dishes will be needed to serve the food and drinks. After the party has ended, you will want the clean up process to be fast and simple so get your family and friends organized on this task.

When shopping for items, try to get items in colors that compliment or are close to your party theme.

Try to get Paper Plates, Cups, Napkins and Utensils with fearful paintings carved on them.

Table Covers:

You will require table covering of various sizes to add extra ambient to your party and also for protecting your furniture. Your main dining table will need a larger kitchen cover and small tables can be covered with smaller coverings. Draw some fearful paintings on the covers too if you are feeling creative.

Balloons:

Is there any party without Balloons? Balloons are one of the "must have" Halloween party supply basics to have on hand. For some reason, balloons seem to shout "PARTY!".

You can have variety in your balloons instead of normally shaped balloons. You can use balloons that are shaped like pumpkins, ghosts or anything related to Halloween

Black Lights:

Replace the regular light bulbs in your lamps with small black light bulbs. Then use these black light bulbs on a specific spot of the house such as outside the front door to get a eerie effect.

Halloween Music and Spooky Sounds:

One essential items that is always need at all party is music and sound effects.
Use your sound effects at the entrance, perfect for your just arriving guests. Once the guests are in, music is important to keep the party going.

Create homemade costumes:

With the help of the children in your family, make them create imaginative costumes.

House Decoration:

Decorate the house with fearsome looking items, from fake heads of animals to pictures of killers or villains.

From the moment the guest walked into the floor, create a feeling for them that they were being watched. This can be done using large metallic head hanging out off the wall . Its sunken eyes will make everybody feel that they have been followed.

Lit the entire house with blue lights and candles. Keep spiderwebs in various corners and hallways in addition to animals with red paint on them to create the bloodied effect. You can hang the animals on ceiling or on walls. Keep lanterns in every room. Hire a tall and big guy with blood smeared clothes, scarred face and eerie smile. Let him have a stained knife at every guest, but never speak. So that he will scare everybody.

Decorate with style:

To have your thrill seeking guests into the Halloween festive party, decorate one of the room of the house with red towels and cobwebs, eerie lighting and painting of witches or anything creepy and eerie sounds effects playing in the background.

Have Halloween related films playing in the living room or wherever is more suitable to add a more realistic festive atmosphere to your party.

Play horrifically fun games:

Have Halloween scenarios and situations added to traditional games for both the kids and adults to take part in.

Accessories:

Black dress paired with striped socks or tights and black boots or shoes will be good for kid to dress like a witch.

Cobweb best suits for adults.

A robe would go perfectly with the wizard hat.

You can make wands at home.

Materials Needed:

Medium-thickness acetate, 6" by 1 1/2' piece (available at art supply stores)

Scissors

Tape

Construction Paper

Colored foil

Mixing bowl

Glitter

Tissue paper

Kids Costumes:

Get the costumes for your kids according to the theme. Get some fearful face mask, dresses with fearful paintings on them. You can also get artificial nails in the market and use then to decorate your kids fingers.

Select a costume that won't fall apart before the night's festivities are over. Make sure the costume won't hamper your child's movement.

Keep your child's restroom needs in mind...snaps, zippers, complicated attire can ruin the evening or a party with an accident.

During Party:

For the night of the party, prepare a small magical bag for each child. Put the following items in each bag:

• A place card stating which wizard house they are in: house of the werewolf, house of zombies, house of the unicorns, or house of the banshees

• A spell book (mini notebook)

• A quill (Black marker-pen)

Prepare the items listed below on a table for the children to play around with some magic power.

1) Multiple crystals balls for conjure and fortune telling. You can use balloons or glass ceiling globes as material for crystal balls if you don't want to buy them from shops.

2) Tarot cards which you can get from magic shops and gifts shops.

3) Fully filled water glass jars with labels of potion ingredients on them . You can mix the water with paint to have a variety of colored water.

4) Small plastic bowls for them to mix portion with. Have some herbs by the side to add more realism.

5) Broomsticks for the kids to have flying games, be sure to supervise this to ensure no silly incidents.

Two final tips to consider:

1) Invite parents to dress up as "wizard teachers" and have them interact with the kids and record the progress of each experiment.

2) Have the party scheduled for the last weekend of October or even on Halloween night itself and you are set for a magical gathering you and your kids will have lasting memories of.

Have a happy and safe Halloween Party.
