Having the Best Cinco De Mayo Party on a Budget

Be the life of the party. That is kind of what being at a Cinco de Mayo Party is all about. True, Cinco de Mayo is about celebrating Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, but it is also about having the best time ever. For many people this is a party for being lively. There are plenty of inexpensive party ideas for Cinco de Mayo.

For decorating your Cinco de Mayo party I would use bright colors. Make it a fiesta by having yellow, pink, orange, and red as your theme colors. Hang chili peppers everywhere. I have seen many plastic chili peppers lights that you can buy inexpensively at dollar stores like Dollar Tree, www.dollartree.com. You can use a sombrero as your main centerpiece. Also get a piƱata, or make one. Not only is it great as a decoration, but you can use it as an entertaining game later.

You will want some festive music playing in the background. You can even use it for dance music if you have the space for it. Some great music to play is Macarena music. Go to your local library, and rent some free cds to play at your Cinco de Mayo party. Just pick some fun, loud Mexican sounding music to play to liven up your party.

The food for your Cinco de Mayo party should be really inexpensive to make. Chips and salsa cost very little. If you have little tables around your party area, it would be great to place these all around for your guests. Tacos are also inexpensive to make. You can have your tacos premade, or you could have a little taco making station. I am sure your guests would have fun making their tacos. Plus, burritos and enchiladas would be great Cinco de Mayo food too.

Many people who come to your Cinco de Mayo party will probably be expecting to have something alcoholic to drink. Honestly if you want to keep your budget on the light side you might want to suggest everyone to "Bring Your Own Booze". However, if your budget allows for the extra cost, and you want to have alcohol at your Cinco de Mayo party there is ways to cut the costs. Some suggestions for alcohol drinks to serve are Corona's, Daiquiris, Margarita's, and Sangria. I would buy those sorts of things at places like BJ's, www.bjs.com, and Sam's Club,www.samsclub.com, where you can get a discount on a big supply. Always remember that if you have alcohol at your party that you are the person responsible to make sure that everyone drives home safely. Let people stay over your house for the night if you think they have had too much to drink. Safety is the key to a really good party.

I would also serve some wonderful non-alcoholic punches for your guests to drink. This party is ideal for punches. A really inexpensive punch to make that I always serve at my parties is combining one gallon of orange juice with two bottles of 7-Up. Then I add rainbow sherbet to it. It is so yummy to drink, and so inexpensive to make. It feels like a little party in your mouth. These are the way to have a fun Cinco de Mayo party on a budget. Enjoy your Cinco de Mayo Party!

Good tips to have an affordable Cinco de Mayo celebration. It's funny b/c a lot of people love the sherbet punch b/c they remember it from their childhood. I think it's refreshing without being too sweet.
