Having Difficulty Breathing and Relaxing at Night

Causes, Symptoms, and Help for Breathing Problems, that Occur During the Nighttime

Mrs.Rogers
Having difficulty breathing is a fact of life for millions. Most of time these conditions are becoming more prevalent among individuals diagnosed with Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis, or some other form of chronic respiratory conditions. It is not as uncommon as you might think. There are over a million cases in America alone each year.

According to the website, www.lesturnerals.org, there are reasons and solutions, for you to know about. Here is where I found some.

But did you know that breathing difficulties while sleeping is abnormal? It is. This can be fatal if not monitored or watched. You should ask your doctor to refer you to a respiratory therapist or someone who specializes in breathing problems. First step though is to find out what is causing you to not breathe sometimes or have labored breathing during the night. This is very scary if you have a child with difficulties, or an elderly mother or father in your life.

What causes you to have difficulty breathing? There are several things that can prohibit your breathing.
> Weakened respiratory muscles, are one. Sometimes ALS can affect the nerve that makes the muscle work in the respiratory system. ALS is a disease that can contribute to the diminishing lung capacity, because it attacks the Bulbar nerve, which is the nerve that controls movement.
> Thickened secretions can also be a factor in not breathing well, especially when in a lying down position. This can be brought on by consuming dairy products.
> Not enough moisture in the sir. This can dry out your throat and make it difficult to breathe.

These problems can be remedied pretty well by several things, like
> adding a humidifier to the sir in the room where you are laying
> Making sure to rinse your mouth with a mouth wash or a throat wash of salt water at night time just right before bed to prevent the dairy product to create mucus.
> With diseases that ravage your lungs and all, you can buy devices that will determine how severe to non severe your breathing has become. Here they are,
1- Oximeter, which measures the amount of oxygen intake you are receiving.
2- ABG tests can determine your severity of breathing.
3- FVC is another way to tell your forced vital capacity.
4- Sleep studies have also been helpful.
These can help determine what is the safest and effective way to treat your condition or problem.

Ways to help with breathing difficulties that you might try are,
> Reclining in a seat like state to sleep. You can get a larger pillow, or prop yourself up using multiple pillows. A lot of times this will give you a restful sleep.
> There is a device called BiPAP. It is non invasive and it can be worn, like a mask, it looks funny but it can give you restful night sleep and improve your mood and energy level during the daytime. As your doctor for more advice about this.
> Drinking the recommended amount of water each day, can help cut back the secretion of phlegm that can get into the back of the throat, and keep you hydrated. So your throat and air passages do not dry out, this will help you to breathe better.
> Medicines, such as a nebular device can help as well. Ask your doctor for more information.
> Ventilators, and humidifiers, can also help.
> Sometimes a tracheotomy is necessary. Your doctor can preform surgery and take out the vocal cords. This should be one of the last resorts, because you do not want to loose them.

Breathing difficulties could be caused by some serious under lying condition. If you cannot get a good nights sleep because you cannot breath good, or you spend the night time worried over a loved one, get some help, there are many options available and they can help you. If you do not know enough to get relief, ask your doctor.
