One of my most favorites places to have a great meal and a few drinks that were worth the money was Starter's Lounge located on Detroit's Westside. The owners have always been of Arabic decent, but their hospitality was none less than a family member. Their menu for drinks was always a favorite to me because they didn't just serve common drinks and shots, but they also offered house specials and mixed drinks. And I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the servings. You get a glass almost the size of a bowl on a leg, filled to the rim of whatever drink you ordered, and the portions of food is enough to feed two people. My favorite drinks are the bombers; Apple, Blueberry and any other specialty. (I'm laughing at myself now).
When it's time to soak up some of that alcohol, I always get the sampler: which consists of hot wings, potato spuds, cheese sticks and ranch dressing. That platter alone fills me and my date, and with a reasonable pricing, I'm able to order at least one more drink to wash it down with. Starter's is located at 18426 Plymouth Rd Detroit, MI 48228.
Now, if you would like to visit a place that allows you to play a little pool, darts or arcade games, the spot to hit is Snooker's Pool and Pub. There are a few of these establishments around the city, but the one I frequent is on the far eastside of Detroit. Now this place has the ultimate sports fan atmosphere; Televisions for the game watchers, and an entire area set aside for pool playing. They also offer some fine dining as well, and as always, I get a sampler. The sampler at Snooker's is fabulous because you are served a huge platter filled with not only the common treats like hot wings, cheese sticks and ranch dressing, but at Snooker's you get some miniature tacos, French fries and your choice of dips and sauces. The prices aren't that bad either. My favorite Snooker's is located at 21901 Kelly Rd Eastpointe, MI 48021.
But for those of you who like to have the dance scene; I believe you'll really enjoy visiting MAI TAIs. This dance club is famous for their drink specials! On Tuesdays, they have $2 shots, and then on Sundays, you can have the option of 'buy one drink, get one free'...who can beat that? Let me tell you about my first time going to Mai Tais...It was for a birthday party of a friend, and by the time she arrived for her own party, they were taking me out and back home! Those of you who know me personally, know that this is possible (I'm rolling on the floor laughing at my memories of that night!). The place is a nice size to hold a few people, their friends and cousins and the friends of those. Sounds complex, doesn't it? But not necessarily, when you enter the place. I just love the seating arrangements at Mai Tais. We always get the booth areas when we go. Being in the booths make me feel like Royalty, because they are set high up on a platform, where you can see the entire club, and the dance floor is like right ahead of you, so you don't have to fight your way through the crowd to get your boogie on. Mai Tais is located on 13310 E 8 Mile Rd Detroit, MI 48205.
So, there you have it people-My way of getting the workday's blues to an end. I used to frequent many clubs when I was a bit younger, but times are a bit more relaxed for me now-a-days and of course I'm into making my own party! But sometimes you may want to get out and see other people and meet new ones, and these few places I've named are just a small number of the many places to go when you're looking for a good, relaxing and fun-filled, in-expensive time in the Motor City!
