Having Fun in Places You Don't Want to Be

Christian K. Martinez
Are social events not to your taste? Visiting the family and it just isn't your thing? If you're young then you might not have a choice, and even as an adult we can't always what we do based on what we want. What we can do, however, is try to make the most of it. Here are a few steps to help making sure you can have fun, even when you're doing something you don't want to.

Stop Being Negative
Stop it. Right now, you're probably already there just thinking about it and you need to get out of that negative place. It doesn't matter if it's something you have never enjoyed before you need to do what you can to break that cycle. I'm not saying you have to be incredibly positive and gung ho. Just work on NOT thinking about being miserable.

Don't Drag Others Down
We all tend to do this when we're dragging our feet or just not having fun. We need to stop doing that too. If we drag down the people we care about, and whom could keep us happy while we're there. Then how are we going to NOT have a bad time. It's a recipe for bad things. So focus on making sure that you're friends and loved ones aren't peeved at you for being miserable and irritated when you go.

Who do you Get Along With?
As I said above, don't drag the people you get along with down. Now when you're there at whatever it is you don't enjoy, spend as much time with the people you care about, or whoever you can have a good time with. This is important, when you are already in a bad mood you aren't open to having fun. So it's important to not be negative, and spend time with who you like.

What Do you Like AboutIt?
It's very rare that there is an event that you hate everything about. IF nothing else, theres always food right? So find what you like about it and think about those things, even if they are little ones. Focus on what you enjoy, instead of dwelling on what you don't.

Now Smile
It sucks to be told to grin and bear it, but there is a bit of wisdom in the phrase. Smiling can actually trick your body into releasing chemicals that will make you happy. So smile loosely, and stop frowning. The more you try at being happy the easier it can be to be happy.

Think Creatively
If worst comes to worst. It's time to think creatively, if it's just keeping a running sarcastic commentary in your head, doodling on a napkin or making up games to play with yourself. Start thinking creatively of things you can do to keep yourself entertained and happy.
