Having an Irregular Period?

avonlive.com
I get a phone call yesterday, it's my little sister. "Sheena!" she says excitedly. I'm like what, whats wrong? She says, "Hey when you where my age 14, were your periods normal?" "Cause my periods only come like every couple months, and I think something is wrong." She tells me. I tell her "don't start freaking out, your only 14, get on birth control and it will make it more regular." She tells me "NOWAY!!" I'm not letting someone look in my thing so I can get on birth control." "Oh my god; what is the big deal." I say. So, I look it up to make sure that its normal. And, yes it's completely normal. So, if your a teen and think your going to die because your period is not regular. Trust me your not going to die. As far as I'm concerned be happy you don't get your period every month.

When your a teenager and only have had your period no longer than 4 years, or have not had a baby than it's completely normal. Your body needs to adjust to the hormone levels in your changing body. ( hormones - a product of living cells that circulates in body fluids (as blood) or sap and produces a specific often stimulatory effect on the activity of cells usually remote from its point of origin; also: a synthetic substance that acts like a hormone ) as in the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids, take a multivitamin everyday, eat a well balanced meal, get plenty of rest, and most of all don't let things stress you out. You know just those things that I've mentioned are very important for young women to live healthy lives. There are other options like birth control. I know from experience that if you get on birth control it will, after a couple months make your period more regular. You should also, talk to your doctor about the options you have.

Never the less if your having pain, burning, itching, a foul or fishy smelling discharge definitely go to the doctors immediately. There really might be something wrong! Don't be embarrassed either because those symptoms could be a number of things other than STD's. Like, a bacteria infection, yeast infection, UTA( urinary tract infection ) and even in some cases diabetes and juvenile diabetes. So always tell you your doctor everything. They are doctors thats their job. To check us out and fix whats wrong.

Be patient you'll be older soon. Your periods will be coming on strong and you'll remember that you were freaking out about an irregular period, while in the meantime your freaking cause you get your period every month and hate it! I don't know but a womens period seems to be sort of like a security blanket. We sometimes wait to make sure that it comes and when its late we're running around like a chicken with our heads cut off buying up every single pregnancy test we can find. I look at it much like a love and hate relationship. When you think somethings wrong and you finally get your period your so happy and relieved, that you love it. I've even at times got my period and was jumping up and down in excitement, because it came. But, when I got it and I knew nothing was wrong I hated it. I still do.

And on the other hand many people are very disappointed that they have gotten their periods. Because, they are trying to create something very special that only them and their loved ones can share together. So, they hate it. My older sister went through that. Finally one day It just happened. Well anyways, lets not get off subject here.

What I am trying to say is that it is OK to be scared. Being embarrassed is normal. But, always tell your doctor what ever is going on because it could be something serious, and telling your doctor soon enough could save your life. Tell your doctor or any doctor. Everything will be alright.
