Hawaiian Tropic or No-Ad: Which is Better?

Margaret
With summer fast approaching, sun block is a necessity that everyone should carry with them at all times. Families with small children have decisions to make concerning the protection of their loved ones. Will the extra money you spend for a name brand product give the extra protection needed; or will a generic brand do the same job for less money?

Hawaiian Tropic and No-AD are two brands that are well know. Both offer the same SPF and water resistance, to a point. The high SPFs offered by No-Ad work very well if you reapply them every time you come out of the water. The directions say that you should apply the sun block every thirty minutes before entering the water and as often as needed after swimming, sweating, or toweling. Hawaiian Tropic, on the other hand, offers four hours of protection after the first application, and tells the consumer to reapply after prolonged swimming or activity.

Quantity vs. quality is always a concern when purchasing a product such as sunscreen. The ramifications of not taking care of your skin and your children's could be dangerous if not life threatening in later years. The studies have all proven that exposure to the sun can cause cancer to those that least expect it. Quite a few adults are finding out that the time spent in the sun while they were growing up has permanently damages their skin. Another consideration is price. Inflation keeps driving the cost of almost everything that a family needs higher and higher.

There is an optimistic point of view to the dilemma. By spending a little more money on the Hawaiian Tropic, the consumer gets a longer lasting product than buying the less expensive NO-AD. The SPF is the same strength for both, but that is where the similarities end. Most adults, at least those over the age of 40, are accustomed to getting a deep dark tan by using baby oil when they are outside. Noxzema and a hot shower were all that was needed to take the burn out the sunburn If, the physicians knew then what they know now, there probably would not be as many cases of skin cancer today. Now that technology has progressed as far as it has, there is no reason for anyone to go through a skin malignancy. The higher the SPF is on whatever product you buy is more important than the cost. Hawaiian Tropic is more expensive than some of the other name brands. It does; however, consistently seem to be more reliable than the NO-AD products.

Hawaiian Tropic is thicker and absorbs quickly into the skin more quickly that the more than the lesser priced product. It also feels more like a regular body lotion. Children are more comfortable with this lotion because sand does not stick to them the minute they try to move. Adults do not have to repeatedly chase them off the blankets to keep the sand off. The scent of NO-AD is not as appealing as the Hawaiian Tropic. The generic brand smells of perfume and does not go away quickly. Little boys do not like to run around smelling like a flower garden. Little girls will also try to avoid a scent that is overpowering and one that has to repeatedly be applied. Hawaiian Tropic has a scent that smell more like fresh citrus and vanilla. It is an odor that no one objects to.

All products have their pros and cons. In this case, a little more money spent, is worth it. The quality of Hawaiian Tropic as compared to the lesser priced NO-AD is worth the extra money.
