He Did it THIS Time, Anyways

And Now OJ's Going DOWN!

He did it this time, anyways. And now the creep is going down.

On June 12, 1994, Orenthal James Simpson may or may not have murdered his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman in the courtyard of her condominium in Los Angeles. Everybody has their own opinion on this matter. My personal opinion is that the sick SOB did it.

The indisputable facts of the case are that two people died. That OJ was, and still remains the prime suspect in their murders. That after the longest and most costly criminal trial ever held in the state of California, OJ was acquitted of both murders.

America and the world were treated to a low speed car chase on the Santa Monica freeway. There was the bloody glove. There was evidence of all sorts, some people say the cops planted it, some say they didn't. Me, I say they didn't. I say OJ was a stupid man and murdered a woman he'd abused for years. But that's just me.

A civil court agreed with me and with many Americans, and found him culpable for the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman and well, we know how well he's done at paying off his civil suit to its beneficiaries. About as well as he's done at "not giving up until he finds the killers". He's looked really hard on all those golf courses he frequents, hasn't he?

Last year, he got this sick idea to write a little "fictional" piece, "If I Did It". This is supposed to be a fictionalized account of how OJ might have killed Nicole and Ron if he had, in fact, done so, which we know he did, but he's still not quite copping to. I haven't read it yet, but by all accounts, he spends most of the book blaming Nicole for everything from their rotten marriage to Bush in the White House to global warming, then basically says "Well, yeah, I did it, and here's how.. oh wait, no, I didn't." Big gonads ya got there, Orenthal.

I'm buying the book, brand new, hard cover, because the money goes to the Browns and the Goldmans. I may or may not read it, but I really like the idea of just shafting that homicidal maniac a little bit.

The last seven years or so have been anything but quiet for Mister Simpson, legally speaking. The cops have been to his house at least five times in seven years to break up fights between him and his girlfriend (the abusive leopard's spots don't change very well). There was the road rage trial after he assaulted another driver a few years back. There was the case where he broke in to his girlfriend's home. There is the handyman who filed a police complaint because OJ threatened him. Is it just me, or do we have something of a pattern here?

Now a few months ago, OJ decides that he wants some football memorabilia back. He busts into a hotel room with a bunch of his friends and holds some dealers up at gunpoint, yelling and cussing and threatening. This is all caught on audiotape. He gets arrested for armed robbery, his friends get arrested for armed robbery, and all of a sudden, OJ gets to discover just how good his friends are.

Because, you see, they're all starting to prepare to turn state's evidence. More power to them. Simpson asked these guys to bring guns to this hotel, with which to threaten these memorabilia dealers, to scare them into giving up the goods. Three of OJ's little playmates are telling tales out of school on him.

And the good news about all of this is that it looks like OJ is finally going to prison. Maybe not for the murders most of us know that he committed thirteen and a half years ago, but frankly, I don't give a shit if it's for shoplifting a Twinkie. He's going down.

Ultimately, of course, he will be going down for those murders and not the robberies. The people don't forget when justice is thwarted. Here's a chance to fix what broke, and fix it within legal channels.

Justice was long denied.

Now it's getting its own revenge.

Our justice system is what it is, and OJ Simpson was not the only wealthy defendant to get away with murder - not by a long shot. But, he is being incredibly stupid in his current situation, including allegedly trying to intimidate a witness (adding on to felony charges already lodged). Maybe he is self destructing the way the man in Poe's "Telltale Heart" did. He can't escape that beating heart beneath the floor boards any longer, and he had to dig it up. My understanding is the Brown family wants no ties to the Simpson book and was angered the GOldmans wanted it published. I am certain they were thinking of Sidney and Justin, not wanting those two young adults to read their father's account of how he killed their mother. No amount of money can bring back two lives, and whether or not Simpson gets the money - there is an unseemly dynamic to him getting to "tell his side" at this late date. There is also no ultimate or poetic justice in him going to jail now for an armed robbery
