He Gave Up His Life to Save Others

Navy SEAL Michael A. Monsoor Killed in Iraq

Donna H. Davey
Not only do soldiers battle on our behalf, but they voluntarily lay their lives down so we don't have to; paying the ultimate price for cause and country.

He surrendered his life so that others would live and because of that, he's a hero; a person who didn't think twice about confronting danger and defeating the sting of death through his courageous, selfless act meant to protect the lives of his fellow soldiers.

He was 25-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor, a Navy SEAL, a gunner, and he died September 29th 2006 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Ramadi, Iraq.

According to four U.S. Navy SEALS, Michael Monsoor threw himself down on a grenade that Iraqi 'insurgents' tossed into their sniper hideout, taking the brunt of the impact and saving lives.

Sometimes words can't even suffice…

Michael Monsoor was described as a man of faith; loyal, professional, dedicated, fun-loving, humble and modest.

It's evident that his actions weren't so modest because they were rare indeed and we should be thankful that an exceptional man like Michael Monsoor lived among us. He was clearly the very best our great Country has to offer and we would be better off if more of us lived like he did - noble and brave.

Thank you, it's hard to read it and not cry. While we're comfortable in our homes and lives... we should never forget what our soldiers and their families are going through. You did a wonderful and respectful job with the story!
