He Has Been Enough

Finding Something Greater Than the World

Stephen St. John
Amy Carmichael was a single missionary. Although she could have lived comfortably in Ireland surrounded by loving family and enjoying the care of a wealthy adoptive father, she dedicated her life to the cause of world evangelization and the rescue of needy orphans. She left her native home never to return again. Amy wrote, "The night I sailed for China, March 3, 1893, my life, on the human side was broken, and it never was mended again. But He has been enough."

In God, Amy found something greater than anything she could find in the world. Because of this she was used by the Lord to save the physical lives of hundreds of children in India and to minister to the spiritual lives of millions through her books. She chose comfort in God over comfort in the world.

Friend, where do you find comfort? One of the great truths of scripture is when we make sacrifices for our Lord we discover our greatest joy! This is possible, because we have Him!

"Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever" (Psalm 73:25-26).
