He is Risen!

Brett Davison
Look down stars
Immortal eyes that have witnessed
The arrogance of kings and the blood of innocence
The love of mothers and the power of poets and songs
Look down on this simple hole

Come silent winds
Come you unseen spirits of change
Whims and passions of this created world
Come into this little cavern

Look, o stone earth
Caretaker of His children
Womb of forests and foundation of cities
Feel this small cavity

Now shine, o distant stars
Now sing, o majestic winds
Now tremble, o ancestral earth

For He is risen

Next the things of wood and creatures of flesh
The crickets sing in joy and hope
The wolves howl for His triumph
The doves take flight to be His living banners

The trees sway and dance with angelic joy
The flowers bloom in His honor
The leaves fall in humility

For He is risen

Then the women
Shocked and afraid at first
But soon they sing with the rest

Then the disciples
Astonished and ashamed

Then the masses
The hundreds who called for His death

All soon declare to the world
To their neighbors
To themselves
He is risen

Then the ministers
The martyrs
The saints and the sinners

In joy
In defiance
In victory
In love

In days long past
In the moments that changed history
In the times that are still fresh in our memory
In the days that are yet ahead of us

They declare

He is risen!
