In order to rid yourself of itchy, dried out skin and give yourself an overall glow, try using an all natural, home prepared treat for your skin. One of the most effective natural treatments for dry skin is cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is rich in vitamins, saturated fats and minerals and is derived from the seeds of the cacao plant. When you use cocoa butter, it not only nourishes your skin with the vitamins and nutrients that are in it, but it also coats and protects your skin from drying out due to the elements, such as cold and wind. The butter literally works as a protective shield for your skin, therefore healing it while protecting it from further damage.
Sesame seed oil is also another natural way to keep your skin in top condition. It sinks in almost immediately and begins repairing the damage from your skin being overdried, such as flakiness and redness. Sesame seed oil is also one of the only natural oils that has sunscreen properties to it, which give it double the benefits. Like cocoa butter, sesame seed oil, nourishes while it protects your skin.
Using olive oil topically is one most fantastic way to keep your skin soft, supple and free of itching and dryness. Olive oil has been used for generations in Europe by women, particularly in Spain, France and Italy as a part of their beauty regimen. The oil is full of nutrients and antioxidants that help fight free radicals, nourish the epidermis, and can reverse the signs of aging.
For a power packed treat that will make your skin smoother, younger looking and devoid of dryness, peeling and itching, try mixing cocoa butter with sesame seed and olive oils. With a few simple steps, you can make a wonderful body butter out of those three ingredients that will feel as luxurious and healing as anything you could buy at the most expensive spas.
In order to make the healing body butter, simply add 1/2 a cup of cocoa butter, 2 tablespoons of sesame seed oil, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and in order to make the butter thicken better, you can add 2 or 3 tablespoons of grated beeswax melted over the stove in a pot. Once you have melted the beeswax with 3 teaspoons of water, slowly add the cocoa butter until it too softens. Keep in mind, that cocoa butter in its natural state comes as a solid and not as a liquid. When the cocoa butter is at a creamy consistency, add the sesame seed and olive oils and stir until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together. You can find all of these ingredients at your local health food store or on-line at such vendors as Amazon.com or Vitacost.com.
You can use this treatment immediately and store any leftover body butter in a jar for future use. If your skin is extremely dry, this treatment can be used daily, or a couple of times a week as a treat to your skin if it is only slightly dry.
With a few simple steps and wonderfully natural ingredients, you can heal your skin's dryness for good.
