Healing Benefits of Crystals

Possible Healing Benefits of Crystals

R. Bourne, Ph.D.
You may have heard about Ayurveda, Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, and holistic medicine. Some of these areas of non-traditional medicine are starting to be accepted by the medical establishment. Some are even combined with traditional medicine. But, using crystals for healing. Is that possible?

The healing benefits of crystals is one of the most controversial aspects of the alternative healing movement. Thinking that a crystal or gemstone can heal yourself or somebody else is just frown upon by traditional doctors. However, many people believe that with an open mind and some practical evidence is possible to believe about the healing benefits of crystals.

Quartz crystals are perhaps the most known crystals to be said to have healing benefits. Many cultures have recognized quartz crystals as powerful tools for healing and to restore good health. Quartz are said to induce the following health benefits: increase and balance body energy channels, balance physical health, help with meditation, stimulate body's chakras, and stimulate the self-curing abilities of the body.

If you are trying to find a scientific explanation of why crystals have all these health benefits you probably will not find it in medical journals. But there are some people trying to explain how crystals may help with your physical and mental health. For example, it is said that the crystal structure has something to do with the healing benefits of crystals.

Quarts crystals are made of silicon dioxide. This simple molecule (one atom of silicium and two atoms of oxygen) has the capability of release energy once heat, impact or pressure is applied to the crystal. This energy enhancing capability may be the explanation of all the multiple benefits of quartz crystals.

Proponents of crystal therapy (using crystal for health benefits) say that wearing a quartz crystal may result in improving certain health conditions. For example, if a person suffers from hypothyroidism he or she may stimulate the thyroid gland by wearing a quartz crystal near the neck.

I guess the health benefits of crystal may be an act of faith since there is no scientific evidence about their effectiveness in treating diseases but then, many alternative methods of healing also lack such evidence and are being increasingly being accepted by the general population. So, why can't we believe on the health benefits of crystals?
