Healing Crystals: Quartz

Crystals and gemstones have been used for healing by many cultures throughout the ages. Amulets made out of gems are believed by some to help cure physical, emotional or spiritual problems that can be associated with that gem. In ancient India, crushed gems would be made into a medicine to work against illness and disease.

Quartz belongs to the set of gemstones that are associated with heat and energy, the blood and the heart. These gemstones include ruby and garnets but whereas these other stones are deeper in colour, rose quartz is more gentle. This pink coloured crystal can be used, in conjunction with healing, to help promote inner peace and calmness.

The soft, calming energy of the rose quartz brings a sense of ease to those who have been hurt, upset or romantically disappointed. It is used more, therefore, for emotional and spiritual health as it helps heal heartache, eases feelings of loneliness and promotes forgiveness.

Anyone who finds an emotional wound is causing constant upset, distress and disturbed dreams might find that introducing rose quartz to their homes will help bring emotional balance. This can be a slow process depending on how deep the wound that needs to be healed. The gentle and restful energy of rose quartz might work over years. Problems won't disappear overnight.

Clear quartz can be used to enhance the mind and spirit. Repelling negativity, people often use quartz as a means to aid meditation and spiritual development. Clear quartz can also be used as a healing tool by therapists as it helps channel and amplify healing energy.

Some, but not all, Reiki practitioners use crystals during their treatment sessions. Crystals can be charged with Reiki energy before the healing by cupping the purified crystal between each hand. Quartz may be worn by the practitioner or placed on the client's heart chakra to help calm emotions and open their heart to new romantic experiences.

Those Reiki practitioners who focus on chakras during their healing might also place clear quartz on all chakras, starting at the base chakra and working up to the crown chakra. After fifteen to twenty minutes the quartz should be removed in the opposite order, firstly taking away the crystal at the crown chakra and then removing all the others, finishing at the base chakra.

Blue quartz crystals, like clear quartz, are often used to enhance spiritual development and increase psychic abilities, while like rose quartz, both help soothe emotions and ease a broken heart.
