Healing Fractures: The Fast and Alternative Way

A Personal History, Healing Fractures in Amazingly Little Time

A. C. O'Brien
How did I heal my fractured hand with amazingly little, "tincture of thyme"? At 58 years of age, one would expect a woman to take close to the maximum time to heal a fracture of a long bone in the hand. Yet I was out of the cast after two weeks and two days instead of the standard 6 to 8 weeks that the orthopedist expected! I was diagnosed with a fracture on a Wednesday, I went to a local "doc in the box," to get it set. That wanna be orthopedist set the fractured hand in a cast that was way too tight , it cut off the circulation. I than decided to go to a local hand surgeon that I had used before for a trigger finger repair. He had done a great quick job at that so I gave my hand fracture over to him.

He opened the original cast and left it taped in place, I was to follow up in two weeks time to see how the healing was going and get a new cast. After seeing him just two weeks and two days after the orig. injury, he removed the cast for what he expected to be an interim x-ray. He read the x-ray scratching his head. He came back into the exam room ask when that injury had occurred. Three times he asked, his nurse asked me once. They could not believe how fast my hand bone had healed, he said I was in the 99th percentile of the time frames for healing for all age groups. Remember I was 58 years old, I should have taken at least three times that to heal.

What I did at home to promote the rapid healing was to paint skin over the fracture area with "Bone-Set" also known as "Comfrey" tincture. I got it at the local health food store. I applied it with a cotton tipped applicator under the edge of the cast. I poked under the edge of the cast with the applicator and painted the area over the fracture with the tincture. The tincture stained the inside of the cast which put a continuous Comfrey compress in place. I did this at least once a day starting the Tuesday after the fracture occurred. I also had one Reiki treatment by a Reiki Master on the first weekend. She worked primarily on my hand and forearm for about an hour. This really went a long way towards lessening my pain. I shared this information with my doctor but of course he shook his head at the idea, he said that that my herbal paint would have had no effect. I know better.

These were the only treatments that I used besides the extra calcium that I took during the healing. That's one extra calcium tablet a day, one Reiki treatment, and Comfrey / Boneset herbal tincture paint daily under the cast at the site of the fracture onto the skin.

Needless to say I am extremely pleased with this result and giggling delightedly at the hand surgeon's reaction to my speed healing. I am ecstatic to be able to share my herbal healing experience here for others that they can have the knowledge that helped me.

Heal and be well.
