The lung exercise of Taoism will help in the healing of any lung ailment from the common cold to more serious complaints like bronchitis. It will strengthen the entire breathing system. Strong lungs and healthy breathing are vital to our health.
To determine the health of your lungs, try to measure the length of inhalation and exhalation. If you exhale longer than you inhale, this is an indication of poor lung health since more is going out than coming in. If you inhale longer than you exhale, this is an indication of good lung health since more energy is absorbed than released.
If you have unhealthy lungs or you are suffering from a lung ailment, doing the lung exercise of Taoism as a compliment to other treatments will definitely be to your benefit.
Lung Exercise of Taoism - Step #1
The first step in the lung exercise of Taoism is to stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Make sure they are parallel to each other. Your back should be straight and your chin tilted only slightly toward your chest.
Lung Exercise of Taoism - Step #2
The second step in the lung exercise of Taoism, once you have the correct posture, is to exhale. Completely empty your lungs and then clasp your hands securely behind your back.
Lung Exercise of Taoism - Step #3
Now, inhale slowly, completely filling your lungs with air. As your lungs expand, push your hands behind you and away from your back. Tuck your chin into your chest. Use only your chest to breathe while performing the lung exercise of Taoism.
Lung Exercise of Taoism - Step #4
Next, exhale, drop your hands to your sides and extend your arms out in front of you. Raising your arms, bring your hands back up toward your head, then around behind your back and back up in front of your body. Keep your fingers pointed while performing this cycle of the lung exercise of Taoism.
Lung Exercise of Taoism - Step #5
Finally, clasp your hands behind your back again with fingers interlaced. Begin the lung exercise of Taoism again on the inhalation. Repeat the entire cycle seven times.
As you are inhaling, visualize fresh energy coming in to your lungs and invigorating the tissue. As you are exhaling, see the toxins and germs leaving your lungs for good.
