If you think of a healthy super fruit and plums do not come to mind, you may just be missing out on a wealth of nutrition. Plums have many more health benefits than you may think. So don't place plums below super fruits as plums can definitely hold their own when it comes to providing the body with good nutrition and delicious taste.

Altogether, the health benefits of plums equal the health benefits of most established super fruits. Plums also have the health benefit of protecting the heart as it is a great source for vitamin C that is widely known as a heart-protecting vitamin. Vitamin C also makes plums good for the skin and the immune system. So you can eat plums to help get over a cold faster.

In a new report, researchers examined the antioxidant values of many types of fruits on cancer cells. Research showed that plums had as much effect on destroying cancer cells as blueberry, which is considered a top fruit for warding off cancer. The results seem especially promising when it comes to breast cancer. The antioxidant power of plums and their phytonutrients ceased the development of breast cancer cells without killing healthy cells. So you can turn to plums to ward off cancer and live a healthy life.

Plums contain phytonutrients that can not only prevent cancer but can also regulate insulin and blood sugar. The phytonutrients found in plums control the release of glucose into the blood after you have just eaten a meal. So plums are perfect fruits for regulating insulin spike between meals.

Plums are also rich in vitamins A and C and contain a lot of nutritious trace minerals that maintains the health and vitality of the body. One of those nutritious minerals just happens to be potassium. Plums have an abundance of potassium and potassium has been well established as being able to control blood pressure. Therefore, when you eat plums you are helping your body to keep your blood pressure in check.

Be careful when eating, however, if you have a history of kidney stones. Plums are among the foods that contain oxalates that may make kidney stones return or worse. You should avoid plums, cocoa, chard, rhubarb and beets when you have a history of kidney stones.

Nevertheless, plums deserve their place among the many super fruits out there today. Plums are delicious, nutritious and they are far less expensive than those exotic fruits. So whenever you feel the need for delicious nutrition, turn to plums to satisfy your appetite and revitalize your body.
