Health Benefits of Pomegranate

The health benefits of pomegranates pile up into a large list not to be ignored. Not only does this fruit provide essential vitamins and minerals, but it also contains a significant amount of cancer fighting antioxidants which can also help other deteriorative conditions related to the aging process of our cells. The antioxidants in pomegranate may even help the regeneration of these formerly oxidized cells!

Health benefits of pomegranate can be immeasurably important for helping people to age more gracefully as well as delaying many causes of elderly illness, such as atherosclerosis, which is a degenerative disease caused by the oxidation of LDL cholesterols in the system. Pomegranate antioxidants can help combat the oxidizing process rather efficiently.

Because of the strong antioxidant properties of pomegranate, drinking pomegranate juice regularly might even help combat premature signs of aging in the skin. Antioxidant content in pomegranate is high enough to support the natural production of collagen in the skin, keeping it smooth and supple, longer.

Another one of the health benefits of pomegranate would have to be its ability to fight blood clotting. Like aspirin, pomegranate juice has shown the ability to thin the blood and avoid plaque build-up on the arterial walls, therefore reducing the risk of heart attack.

The health benefits of pomegranate do not end there. Pomegranate juice has also shown to help fight other causes of heart disease, breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and even erectile dysfunction. By being such a powerful source of antioxidants, the health benefits of pomegranate extend to a wide variety of physical ailments which can be virtually avoided because it combats the "rotting" or oxidation of the cells in the human body that result in these serious and often life complicating ailments.

There is currently an ongoing study to decipher whether regular pomegranate consumption might have a positive effect on degenerating joints. Being as to how the high levels of antioxidants in pomegranate help support collagen production, the hypothesis is that regular pomegranate consumption may aid in the regeneration of joint fluids or at least help combat the painful swelling associated with arthritis. The findings already support the fact that regular pomegranate consumption helps fight the degeneration of joints and cartilage significantly.

Yet another health benefit of pomegranate is its ability to fight dental plaque build-up. Much like cranberry juice, pomegranate juice has an anti-adhesive quality that coats your teeth and makes it more difficult for bacterial or food particles to stick and create a bacterial environment in your mouth. This alone is worth drinking a few glasses a day for.
