In this time of war and death being broadcasts in every news report, people are desperately looking for something to bring peace and happiness into their lives. Leaving workplace stress behind you, find the little things in your life that will make you smile just a little.

Benefits of Smiling

There are great benefits in smiling. First, it makes you seem much more attractive and approachable. It brightens your mood and the mood of the people around you. Did you know that it relieves stress and has great health benefits. A smile can increase your immune system, lowers your blood pressure and release endorphins into your system. A smile makes you seem friendly and draws others around you. You will feel and seem successful to others.

There are definitely benefits to finding things to make you smile. In our day and age, finding a smile seems harder and harder. The trick is to take pleasure in the little things. Remember the things that brought you joy as a child and allow the happy memories to cause your face to rise in a joyful smile.

Finding Your Smile

Playing with a pet. Pets are great companions. They bring love and devotion. They make you feel needed and wanted after a long day's work. If you don't want a pet of your own, try playing with someone else's pet or going to the park to watch others play with their. There is almost a contagious giggle that rises when watching the playful devotion between a pet and their owner.

The beach. The beach brings back wonderful memories of youthful playfulness. It also has a calming effect that will evoke a smile of contentment. Lying on the sand, hearing the light swish of the waters and giggles of kids playing would bring a smile to your face in no time.

A bubble bath. Nothing pleases me more after a stressful day than to sit in a hot bubble bath. Find bubbles with a therapeutic aroma that calms you or reminds you of other happy times. As your body relaxes, a smile will appear from the release of tension.

Hot chocolate. Do you remember coming into the house during long winter days after a snow fight? Your fingers and toes were so cold you thought that they would fall off. Hot chocolate always warmed every bone in your body and caused you to smile. Think of those times as you make yourself a cup of hot chocolate this winter. Plus, chocolate is a natural endorphin booster.

Watching the sunrise. As the sun rises, be grateful to be able to live another day. Start the day off with a smile and appreciate the added time you have.

Talking to an old friend. Call someone you haven't talked to since high school or college. Reminisce about the old times and reacquaint with the people you are today.

Help someone out. Assist a coworker with a difficult project or help someone cross the street. Helping others brings on an innate sense of pride, and that alone will make you smile.

Hold hands with someone special. Just the simple act of holding hands is very enjoyable. You'll find yourself smiling in no time.

Bake cookies. Chocolate-chip cookies are even better. Your smile will begin at the first smell of the cookies from the oven.

For no reason at all. Smiling is contagious, even for the person smiling. If you can't find anything to smile about, fake it until you feel it. After a while, you will find smiling is as natural as breathing.

There are many different things to smile about in this world. Find a few everyday for a happier and healthier you.
