Health Care Access Made Easy (Finally!)

Mio Shibata Georgiou
According to the United States Census Bureau there are approximately 46 million uninsured Americans - over 14 million of those are eligible for government sponsored programs like Medicaid and CHIP (children's health insurance programs). Health care has been deemed by several international organizations as a basic human right. Additionally, it is evident that the economy will continue to suffer unless it is being supported by healthy and working contributors. In a drowning economy, it is understandable that government sponsored programs are being stretched due to budget cuts. While basic health care is a human right, in a democratic, free-market nation, it is still our responsibility to claim what is ours.

If you are currently uninsured, it is easier now, more than ever, to gain access to health care. There are plenty of resources out there that can guide you through the seemingly daunting task of procuring health coverage. Many of these are local, state and national governmental agencies. However, with the long wait times, unfriendly employees and paperwork with hundreds of questions, it almost seems like the government is doing whatever it can to legally keep you from getting health care coverage.

The Foundation for Health Coverage Education is a non-profit organization that offers 2 "no-nonsense" ways to help you access detailed health insurance information. Their toll-free helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to identify health care options unique to the individual calling. FHCE also offers an eligibility quiz with 5 simple questions - once answered several public and private health care options are displayed. Each program displayed is accompanied by the cost of the program, a sign up checklist and directions on how to sign up.
