Dissatisfaction is easy to breed in those who have too much and have never suffered having too little. Grown humans become petulant children easily swayed into thinking they must have more, more, and more. So when a Political party comes along that promises to give you everything you are whining for...to bring "change"....many fall for these promises. What you were not told was the entire version of "change". Now, your changes are about to come and they may make celebrating "Independence Day" a bit redundant.
The ideal of "health care for all" has been a bit elusive in our country for many reasons. "Health Care" and "Health Insurance" are not identical twins. Health Care means...all people will be able to obtain care when needed. Health Insurance means those who can afford it will purchase from the big insurance companies a policy which may or may not cover their medical expenses, and those who are on the lowest end of the money spectrum will receive government insurance, yet neither will be guaranteed good "health care". As to those in the middle, which are the majority of American citizens, there are no options other than to pay a Doctor when you need them instead of putting yourself into poverty to pay an insurance company all year long.
Our new regime...sorry...administration...has the answer. Impose a fine of up to $1000.00 on those who go to the Doctor for themselves or their children when they do not have Insurance. The fines will then go to the government to "offset" health care costs. In other words...the fines will be more money we, the average American pay for others to have Medicaid. Does this guarantee "health care" for all? No. All it does guarantee is more people will hesitate to take their children or themselves to the Doctor when needed. The children of the very rich will see a Doctor, the children of the very poor, will see a Doctor chosen by their government. The rest of the children - which make up the majority - will be kept from a Doctor because their hard working parents can not afford insurance or a fine imposed by the Government. Our government is run by people who, while manipulating people into hating the "rich" - are actually the rich! While they worry about paying their $1 million in taxes, we worry about paying our $1000.00 mortgages. When these very wealthy individuals tell us we should buy "affordable health care", translate again to "health insurance" - they do not understand that even $400.00 per month can make a difference in how our children live, eat, and survive.
I had Health Insurance for most of my life. I had complete coverage the day I almost died and had to have surgery. I spent years paying off the debt for my surgery even though I had full coverage insurance which was supposed to pay it. I also had full coverage insurance when I went into the hospital to give birth to my son. I spent five days in labor and it was not until the moment my son and I both were close to death that I received a C-section. The hospital had to exhaust every possible method to bring the birth about without surgery before the Insurance Company would pay the bill. In the end, they did not pay the entire bill. I did. $66,000.00.
My insurance for our family cost me $900.00 per month, but...it would not cover my daughter who was born with Arthritis. I could not afford the "Insurance" and the medical bills and continue to feed my family. If I had an extra $900.00 per month, I would just give it to the Doctor!
The cost of "Health Care" is the problem. I can not fully lay the blame for this on the hospitals or even with the Doctors, although both hold some responsibility in the rising cost. The cost of health care points straight back to the Insurance companies. Having Insurance, guarantees at some point as mentioned in a prior article - people will enact lawsuits which will cost everyone else as the big Insurance Company is going to get the money back with any method open to them. Doctors and hospitals own insurance costs have sky rocketed so out of control, they pass this cost onto the patients. It is a never ending cycle which will not be fixed by putting more burdens on the workers of this country.
Insurance and Lawyers combined are the seed of many of our Country's problems. I am always amazed that we allow Lawyers to be politicians...in other words...Lawyers are writing the law. Obviously, they will write law to benefit...them. Not you. And this newest law benefits only those who already can afford "health care", not those who can not. The middle class.
The goals of this new regime are to completely eradicate the "middle class" from our country. Every new law points us in that direction. There are those who do not understand the reason it is important to keep a middle class in a democracy. Having a middle class is the result of a free country where people are allowed to better their positions in a society. Without, we end up with the Elite (super rich) and the peasants (super poor dependant on the government). Once you are completely dependant on your government for all your needs, you are no longer free. Someone else holds the reins and controls the yoke around your neck.
To truly care about people receiving "health care" would require a complete over haul of the medical system as it is. Cost would be evaluated instead of incurring more cost onto the people. People do not live without insurance because they don't want it...they live without because they can not afford to give a large portion of their wages to an insurance company each month they may only use the services of one month of the year. All working class citizens already give a portion of our earnings to provide welfare (with free medical) to those who do not or can not work. We already guarantee their children free visits to the Doctor and the Dentist, while our children are limited.
I have always thought it would be more beneficial to a working society if our government rewarded those who work with free medical care and dental care. If every time your paycheck reflected a deduction for this, it benefited you, the worker, and your family. Rewarding people for working would result in more people willing to work. The truth is in our country, the majority of the very "poor" are those who do not work and many who spend their lives abusing substances while their children do without. Yet...because of social programs, their children end up with more benefits than the children of the very people who provide those benefits. I spent many years taking my foster children to the doctor where they received free care, care I could not afford for my own children. While I was taking my foster children to the doctor, their parents were often living in a world of self indulgence I myself could never afford to engage in.
What reward do I, or my ex husband or any other working person in this country get for supporting ourselves and being responsible? Our only "reward" is to continuously be held accountable for not only our own debts, but the support of those who do not work. Thank you for the "change" Mr. President which you are bringing to my country. Thank you for no understanding of life for those who support this country yet do not live on multi million dollar incomes. And raising taxes to pay for this new plan...genius! I will of course be thinking fondly of you while I tend to my sick children myself and hope they never need to see a Doctor because I can not afford health insurance, and I certainly can not afford your "fine" and I do not qualify to live free.
