It is 5 PM CST as I listen to a Republican press conference on CNN. Three hours ago, CNN analysts predicted that the Republicans of Congress would do exactly what they are now doing by trying to paint Obama as a overly pro abortion president and anything else to divide America in order to kill any and all hope of health care legislation.
The legislation being voted on today has been dubbed as the government takeover of health care which has already been debunked as a fabrication. The Fox Network, GOP and other extremists are still attempting to make people believe their rhetoric and it seems that many are comfortable allowing themselves to be lied to and manipulated. Many people got angry when Bill Maher told Larry King that Americans are stupid yet those who were most angered are the very same people who are willing to believe anything other than the facts. Perhaps Maher was correct because a country willing to allow their representatives to be more concerned about political maneuvering rather than doing what is best for the public does not seem to be very bright.
Nelson Mandela told his wife that the day he worried more over his job than the people of Africa is the day he no longer deserved to lead.
I have not seen that kind of sentiment from many Democrats but it has been absent from 99% of all Republicans. They seem to be concerned more about their jobs than leading the people of America while bending over the couch for special interests and lobbyists.
Obama is at least willing to put his office on the line to help the American citizenry, which is more than Bush or Cheney ever considered. It is not drawn by party lines, it is a matter of leading by example, which is something the GOP refuses to do.
It is 5:50 PM and the first vote on health care has been passed with over 220 votes and I have to wonder what kind of garbage will be thrown out by Republicans. This is the first legislation in decades that has made it through, therefore it is a historic piece of legislation. Instead of the supposed free market system bankrupting us for the benefit of their profit margin, we now have a decent shot at curbing a little of their outrageous behavior in order to bring down spiraling costs and insure more of those who need it. Many Americans are not sorry to have regulations put on the insurance industry. Some of us wish we could do the same for the big banks. If something is necessary for the American public...health care, cash flow, food, clean air, clean water, etc. it should be regulated.
We can not afford to allow the banks, insurance industry or any other entity to continue practices that cause more damage to the public than anything else. If the insurance industry has the ability to continue raising rates and pricing people out of insurance, what is to say that in ten years or less the only people to be able to afford health care insurance are the ones who make $500,000 or more? How many more people would be dropped for health concerns they have no control over? How many would have no option at all when they lose coverage when laid off? The list goes on...
President Obama is not a pro abortion politician and I, as an American, resent the effort by anyone to paint him in another fabricated negative light in order to score political points. It is bad enough that we have idiots running around screaming bloody murder because he is black and they use any excuse imaginable to hide their bigotry.
Americans that are pro choice also have to pay taxes. Is it not unjust that pro choice Americans pay taxes only to be drowned out by the right to lifers who want to prevent abortion but do not want to bother paying for the kids they wish to force into the world?
Many Americans believe that their religion gives them the right to dictate to the rest of us what we can and can not do. Tax dollars paid by pro choice Americans should not be any less valuable than any other tax dollar and the religious views of one person, or group, should not dictate what the rest of us do.
Abortion is simple to solve...if you don't want one, don't have one.
Those of us who do not claim a man made religion rely on things more important like respect, fairness and honesty. Why should our tax dollars be used for the right wing fringe or religious beliefs if our own sense of balance is thrown out the window? Why do we have to tolerate the so called Conservatives who have no qualms about making false or misleading statements in order to scare the public to stupidity?
We should not have to.
The fact remains...health care reform is needed. Doing something is better than doing nothing. I, and many other Americans, are willing to try to accomplish something rather than accepting the status quo while many more Americans will find themselves going bankrupt over medical bills in order to protect a corporation's profit margin.
Those unwilling to do so are not Patriots,...they are cowards.
