Health Care Tips for Men

Many men often forgo the trip to the doctor, that is until it becomes necessary. Working in the health care industry, I see this all of the time. Taking care of your health before something goes wrong is crucial, especially for men. Unlike women, who are more likely to go for screenings, regular checkups, and the like, a lot of men do not have health at the top of their priority list. There are a few common tips regarding men's health, that every man should know.

Visit your physician at least annually, get that checkup. It could be the difference in life or death. Significant changes in blood pressure, weight, and various other things may indicate disorder or disease. Your doctor will let you know if any additional testing or screenings are needed.

Know your risk and family history for disease. You would be surprised the number of men that do not know this information. This enables you to prevent disorders that you may be predisposed to. It also lets your doctor know what they should be looking for.

Do not suffer in silence. Many men will whine, complain, and act like the world is coming to an end at the onset of a cold. However, some men will not utter a word if they have unexplained aches, pains, and other illnesses that can not be seen by the naked eye. If you feel like something is not right, or you have onset of any symptoms for no apparent reason, you should see a physician.

Keep alcohol intake to a minimum. There are some healthy benefits of having the occasional drink, but many won't stop there. So, listen up frat boys, too much alcohol can not only damage your liver but raise your blood pressure and risk for other disease.

Have protected sex every time that you have sex. This should be a no brainer, but obviously, not everyone is getting the message. Unprotected sex doesn't only lead to unwanted pregnancy, but sexually transmitted diseases. Neglecting to use a condom is similar to trying to perform a death defying stunt. Nothing bad may happen, but it very well could.

A few other things to keep in mind are to watch your weight, exercise regularly, don't smoke(not even socially), eat healthy, and make some time for yourself. All of these things can be vital to mens health, and these are the many things men don't do. So, be smart about your health and get educated about your body.
