Health Care Vote Schedule: When Will the Health Care Vote Happen Today?

Health Care Vote Happens Today in House and Senate

Mary Zeiher
The Health Care Vote will take place today Sunday, March 21st, in the U.S. Congress on the landmark legislation that has been debated and fought over between the Democrats and Republicans for the past months. This health care vote will mean the availability of health insurance to more than 30 million Americans who do not currently have health care.

It was announced yesterday that there will be two health care votes today in the US House of Representatives. The first Health Care Vote will take place in the House and members will vote on the Health Care Bill that was already passed by the Senate last year.

The second Health Care Vote will then take place in the House of Representatives on a Health Care reconciliation measure that bridges the gaps between the House and the Senate version of the Health Care Bill. Then the US Senate has to have it's own Health Care Vote on the reconciliation measure.

The very confusing schedule for the Health Care Vote on this historic legislation is as follows:

1 p.m.: The House of Representatives Convenes

2 p.m.: The House of Representatives will start the debate, lasting one hour, for the rules of debate for the health care reconciliation bill and the Senate health care bill.

3 p.m.: The House will then vote to end the debate and the House will vote on the rules of the debate.

3:15 p.m.: The debate on the health care reconciliation package will begin and last for two hours.

5:15 p.m.: Health Care Vote on the reconciliation package in the House of Representatives.

5:30 p.m.: The House will debate for 15 minutes on a Republican health care substitute and then vote.

6 p.m.: The House of Representatives will vote on the final health care reconciliation package.

6:15 p.m.: Assuming the health care reconciliation bill passes in the House then they will immediately vote on the Senate health care bill.

This Health Care vote, according to Democrats, will mean that millions of Americans will have insurance that are currently uninsured and that people who have been denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions will no longer be denied.

Republican opposition has stated that this health care vote will mean higher taxes to pay for the health care and far too much government intrusion in what should be private health care decisions. Additionally Republicans oppose that by 2014 we will be forced to purchase health insurance or face penalties for not having health insurance.

Aw, the health care vote. I am seriously behind on reading articles. I only have 81 people to keep up with--you would think I could do it. UGH. Good article about it!
