Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten why? Or called someone to tell them something then not remember what it was, or start eda sentence and then been unable to finish it? Or gone into a store to buy something and well, you know what I'm going to say.

All of these things have happened to me in the last few years, first it started with one or two incidences, then more and more these unsettling things have occurred.

This inability to remember those little things or what I was looking for have really started to concern me. I would laugh and call it a "senior moment" or say oh, it is my "sometimers" at work here

But the concern about this has deepened a bit so after doing some research I thought it would be a good idea to add Ginkgo Biloba to my daily regimen of vitamins and herbs.

After many years of being in the health food industry my husband and I have a strong belief in vitamin and herbal supplements to be taken on a daily basis. This belief is quite strong. We have always taken the usual basics, Vitamin's A,C.E, along with a good multiple vitamin and anti-oxidants to make our bodies better suited to fight illness and strengthen our immune systems.

The vitamins, Selenium, Zinc and Beta carotene are the big three in that category.I also take Primrose Oil and Fish Oil, along with Glucosimine with Condroiten hoping that will help my arthritis pain, though the jury is still out on that one.

I have noticed that these vitamins, minerals and herbs seem to keep me on the healthy side and I do not get as many colds as other people get, maybe I'm just lucky, but I like to believe that my vitamin regimen is helping.

But this memory loss had me very concerned and decided to add Gingko Biloba regularly to this vast array of pills. I take a 60 milligram capsule twice a day.

But what is it?

Gingko is one of the oldest herbal remedies known to man which has been used for centuries in home made teas for many ailments.

The latest and most popular use these days is for the prevention of memory loss as it has been found to increase the blood circulation to your brain the more circulation your brain has the better off you are. Recent tests have shown that there is some improvement in Alzheimer patients when Gingko was given to some patients during some studies.

Gingko has also been found to provide other benefits as well. It has been discovered that this herb can also help in certain heart conditions, for instance, Arteriosclerosis, which in layman's terms, means the hardening of the arteries, by eliminating the fatty tissue buildup on the walls of the arteries.

It improves circulation and blood flow, which helps prevent that buildup, reducing the chances of stroke and heart attack. I also learned from surgery procedures and tests that I have had, that it does work as a blood thinner so that might be the reason. Before any such test or surgery they tell you to stop taking it about 3-4 days before your procedure just like they tell you to do with Vitamin E.

That said, it certainly makes me happy to think I am getting a double benefit and I do notice an improvement in my memory since I've started taking Gingko. Those moments of feeling lost in thought and wondering what I just about to do or say have lessened. They are not gone completely but are less frequent.

So all in all, I think Gingko Biloba is an herb that can help your memory along with a beneficial side effect, it can help you have a healthier heart, but the only thing you have to do, is remember to take it!
