1. Use a liquid bacterial soap in your home instead of the typical bar soap that most people use. The reason for this is because the bar soaps usually hold a variety of germs, and are not a clean as we think they are.
2. If you are in a public place, try not to touch the stair rails, doorknobs, faucets ect. There are multitudes of people who touch these things on a daily basis and you can never tell what other things they have touched throughout the day. It is recommended that you keep a hand wash close by that will allow you to keep your hands as clean as possible. Be sure to wash your hands regularly as you go through your day. Most of the time when people become infected by something, it enters in through the hands.
3. Keep your stress level as low as possible. This may not always be as easy to do as it sounds, however there are several practical things that we can do over the course of a day that will allow us to have a low stress level. These things include avoiding potentially stressful situations, or people whenever possible. If you know that coming into contact with a person could potentially cause you to become stressed, avoid them altogether.
4. Whenever possible, avoid shaking hands with other people, especially during flu or cold season.
5. Eat as healthy as you possibly can. Studies have shown that including certain foods in your diet will decrease the risk that you will become sick. A lot of this is based on the immune system and the stronger your immune system the better off you will be. Some goods foods to accomplish this are garlic, onions, carrots, and soups.
6. Always remember to get plenty of rest. The more tired your body is, the greater the risk that you could potentially become sick.
7. Do not share food or drinks with other people, especially during flu or cold season.
If you follow the tips laid out in this article, you will greatly reduce the chances that you will come down with a cold that causes you to miss time from work or school.
