Healthier Alternatives for Halloween Trick or Treating

Jessica Frame
With Halloween just around the corner why not do something different this year. Here are some Halloween trick or treat candy alternatives that are bound to keep your kids healthy and just as happy.
  1. How about toothbrushes. Toothbrushes are a great idea to give out for Halloween. Each child will have the opportunity to eat candy, but also won't forget to brush their teeth when they're done, which is really important. Not only will the children be happy, but also the parents too.
  2. Pencils are a great idea too. I myself have given out pencils in goody bags for my children and their friends. I try to get different prints or colors so they aren't as boring as a regular number two pencil. This is a great alternative because children can take these to school and use them over and over again.
  3. Loose Change. This is a great alternative especially if you have some trick or treaters that you weren't expecting or if you have forgotten it's Halloween. My husband and I had this happen the year we got married and we gave out change. It doesn't have to be much, we gave 50 cents. This is a way to light up any child's face. Everyone loves money no matter how little. As my mom always says every little bit helps.
  4. Toys. Any toy for a child will do. A friend of mines family always goes to fast food restaurants during the week due to family activities. She gathers the duplicate toys that her children have already received, and puts them back as toys to give out for Halloween. Not economical for all families to eat fast food everyday, but you can also go to your local dollar store and buy small toys in bulk and save money.
  5. Fruit. My mom did this one. She would buy a few bags of apples and give them out for Halloween. I guess her being a mom she didn't want to contribute to the mass of other families giving out junk food. This is a great idea for all of you health nuts out there.

If none of these do it for you, just look around your house or local dollar stores. These are always great places to go and get ideas. Dollar stores always sell things in bulk for cheap and your house will give you ideas and possibly get rid of some extra clutter.
