Healthier Valentine's Day Party Snacks and Treats

Treats Teachers Won't Mind for Class Parties

In most schools parties are thrown for many of the holidays. Generally the parties are planned weeks ahead of time. A note is usually sent home with your child asking for volunteers to help in the class room with the party, and also for parents to send in snacks or other items for the party.

Parents know how children get when they consume too many sweet treats. Remember the last time your child was a little too hyper? Multiply that by twenty. It's not surprising teachers don't like it when parents send in the sweeter types of treats.

The hyper behavior is certainly not the only issue that arises when children consume too many sugary snacks and treats. There are several other concerns as well. Sugary snacks when eaten in abundance will cause belly aches. No one wants a sick or vomiting child on Valentine's Day! Surgery treats also contribute to tooth decay. We teach our children that they shouldn't eat junk foods in order to keep their teeth healthy, and their bodies too.

A great idea is to choose a healthier snack for Valentine's Day. Send something in for your child's classroom party that will be healthier and actually good for the children.

The first snack idea that is sure to be a hit with both the teacher and the class is strawberries. They are healthy, naturally delicious, and red for Valentine's Day. To go one step farther and add that extra touch make twenty little strawberry desserts for the class. They are very simple but appear so fancy! Use your muffin tins and pretty pink, red, white, or silver papers. Add a spoonful of whip cream or cool whip to each paper. Place one fresh strawberry into the whip and refrigerate until it's time to bring them to the school. It's just not a good idea to send this one on the bus with your child.

Another healthy Valentine's Day treat option is home made rice crispy treats. You can make them pink by adding a few drops of red food coloring. Rice Crispy cereal is packed full of the vitamins and minerals that kids need daily to grow strong and healthy. They are simple to make too. The directions are right on the box! All you'll need is marshmallows and butter. The red food coloring is an option that will give the treats a nice Valentine's Day twist.

Jell-O is another treat that can be sent in for classroom parties. If you use watermelon, cherry or strawberry Jell-O is will be red. Jell-O alone is not all that healthy but if you add some diced peaches, strawberries, pears, or bananas it becomes healthier. Muffin tins can also be used for this, along with very thick papers. As long as it is refrigerated until it's ready to be served the papers will hold the Jell-O. Use thick papers only, the thin ones will not work. Foil papers will work the very best.

The last snack idea that is a great one for Valentine's Day parties is gummy treats. Gummy treats, also known as fruit snacks, are often red. They are also full of vitamin C. Gummy treats can be considered a healthier snack. They are also fun and taste great. Many brands of gummy treats can be found ready for Valentine's Day, packaged accordingly and decorated for the occasion. Thanks for reading and take care!
