Healthiest Detox Diets

Are There Any Safe Detox Diets Out There?

Terri Beck
There are literally thousands of detox diets out there, all claiming shocking weight loss with no side effects. Are these claims true? Most of the time they are not. These claims are just hype the product manufacturers use in order to sell their product. Many of the products are risky and can cause severe health problems and even death.

If you are going to do a detox diet you should be doing it to gain better health and not to lose weight. If health is your first goal you will not be as likely to rush into a dangerous detox plan. I am giving you three examples of safe detox diets. Detox diets are not for everyone, and not everyone can handle a strict plan. Pick your plan based on your personal preferences and abilities. Also, be sure to consult your doctor to determine if you are healthy enough to do a detox diet. People with diabetes, and other conditions, may not be able to follow these plans.

Here Are My Safe and Effective Detox Diets

1. The Master Cleanse
This is a pretty tough detox and not for the weak willed. On this diet you will drink a "lemonade" mix of cayenne, real maple syrup, and fresh squeezed lemons. You will do this for at least ten days, having 6 to 12 glasses per day and nothing else except water or decaffeinated tea. This is not easy and takes real commitment. It is worth it though! People have seen improvement in allergies, Candida, and overall health. If you are following this diet exactly, it's pretty impossible not to lose weight. Some claim that this cleanse is not safe. It is safe, as long as you don't have any underlying conditions that would cause it not to be so. Remember check with your doctor first. However, your doctor may not agree with detox diets period. It is advisable to find a doctor who is open to the concept of a cleanse. Here is a website that will help you get started with the Master Cleanse, themastercleanse.org. It is very important to follow the directions exactly, especially when "easing" out of the cleanse.

2. A Fresh Juice Fast
This is one of my favorites! First you need to buy a really good juicer. They are not cheap and a good one will set you back at least a couple hundred dollars. Don't buy a cheap one or you will regret it, also make sure your juicer is easy to clean. This detox diet is very flexible. You just need to pick a variety of fruits and vegetables. Whatever you like, although dark green vegetables are especially cleansing. Drink as much of this fresh juice as you feel you need. It is very healing to your body. You will not eat any foods, drink alcohol or drink anything with caffeine. You can do this diet anywhere from one to ten days. I would not recommend doing any detox diet for longer than 10 days. This detox plan is moderately difficult. If you drink enough juice, you will feel healthy and energized fairly quickly.

3. Fruit and Veggie Detox Diet
If you really can't handle going without food in order to do a detox diet then this is the plan for you. It is pretty easy to do. You will only eat fruits and veggies, it's that simple. No meat, fish, nuts, beans, etc... Only fresh raw fruits and veggies. You can eat as much as you want but limit the amount of high sugar fruits. You can have avocados, cherries, anything. Eat as many green leafy vegetables as you can. You can drink herbal teas but once again stay away from the ones with caffeine. This diet may be a challenge if you are used to eating Big Macs and Doritos but it's much easier than the two previous diets. Stay on this diet for up to ten days. It's best to try to stay on it for a week but any amount of time on the diet will help. Go for 3 days if you can't do 10!

Tips
Buy all organic products (you are trying to get the toxins out, you don't need to be putting them in)
Drink plenty of water
Get plenty of rest
Take it easy (now is not the time to start an intense exercise program, try yoga or short walks)

If you stick with any of these detox diets for ten days, you will see a marked improvement in you health. Remember to not go back to eating junk food after you have done the diet. The purpose of a detox diet is to regain your health. If you go back to eating crap you will go back to feeling like crap also.
