Eating Healthy and Fast

Lisa Musser
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The body sleeps for 8 hours or more during the night and this first meal of the day breaks the night time fast. Your body has been without food for many hours and needs to be fed. Busy people on the go often skip breakfast because they have no time to cook or grab something at the drive thru. Why line someone else's pockets when you can have a healthy breakfast at home. Prepare meals the night before or get up 15 minutes earlier to get a jump on a quick meal. Here are some healthy breakfast ideas to eat good on the go!

Cottage cheese and fruit

Cottage cheese and fruit makes a quick and easy breakfast when you're short on time. A cup of cottage cheese and handful of grapes, chunks of pineapple, apple wedges, orange slices or peaches is delicious and healthier than an McMuffin.

Oatmeal with honey, syrup or fruit preserves

Cook oatmeal in the microwave and top with butter, maple syrup or fruit preserves. Fresh fruit can be chopped and added as well as nuts for a fruity, crunchy breakfast. If the oatmeal is too hot to eat put it in a Tupperware bowl and take a plastic spoon to eat it in the car before going in to work. ( Eat it in the parking garage, not while driving)

Fried egg and bacon sandwich

Fry two eggs and two strips of turkey bacon. Toast two slices of whole wheat toast and lightly butter. Place the eggs and bacon on the bread and enjoy with a cup of coffee or glass of milk.

Whole grain waffle with peanut butter and banana

Whole grain waffles spread with peanut butter and sliced banana are a kid's favorite breakfast. Eat with a knife and fork or fold over and eat with your fingers like a sandwich.

Protein shake or fruit smoothie

Protein powder with skim milk and sliced fruit make a healthy and filling breakfast. Fruit smoothies are made with yogurt, fresh fruit and a little fresh juice.

Breakfast burrito

Scramble some eggs or egg substitute, tofu or ham, and shredded potatoes or frozen hashbrowns, mushrooms and onions together and wrap in a heated tortilla. Top with a little salsa or hot sauce and sour cream. A spicy Mexican-style breakfast that's good for you. Wrap warm burrito in a paper towel or napkin and eat while walking or waiting for the bus.

Homemade breakfast bars and glass of milk

Combine 2 cups of oats with 1 cup of flour, Ã'¾ cup of brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and Ã'½ tsp of baking soda and 1 cup of raisins. Melt Ã'¾ cup of butter and add to dry mix. Stir well and put half the mix in a buttered baking dish and pat out to the edges. Top the mix with fruit jam and top that with the last remaining half of the mixture. Bake at 350 for half an hour. Cut into bars and cool. Serve with a glass of cold milk.

Hard boiled eggs and slice of ham

Ham and eggs for breakfast even when you are in a hurry. Hard boil the eggs the night before and slice the ham into pieces and place in a bowl. Eat with your fingers. A quick and easy breakfast.

So there you have it! Some healthy breakfast ideas to feed your body and keep you from being hungry when you don't have time to cook. Most of these foods can be made ahead and packed into tupperware bowls for easy transport.
