First you want to choose the right brush. The old fashion bristle brush is a thing of the past. I prefer a brush with wide spaced plastic bristles that have coated tips, that will give when pressed upon with your finger. This allows for gentler brushing.
This brushing technique is ideal for long hair. You part your hair in the middle and place approximately half over each shoulder and starting at the bottom gently work out the snarls and tangles a little at a time until you reach the roots. This will minimize any breakage.
Another great brushing technique for long hair. After all the tangles are removed and the brush slides evenly through your hair, bend over at the waist and brush your hair starting at the nape of the neck following all the way through to the ends. This technique will stimulate the scalp and maximize hair growth.
Never, never brush your hair when it is still wet. When wet, your hair is like elastic, and stretches. Brushing wet hair will cause it to become weak and brittle. If you feel you must detangle while your hair is still wet, use a wide tooth comb and starting at the ends, gradually work your way to the scalp.
Every night before going to bed brush your hair to remove tangles, using the starting from the ends technique. Once this is accomplished, starting at the scalp run the brush down the entire length of your hair. Continue this for a full count of 100 strokes. This stimulates the scalp as well as distributes essential oils from the scalp to the fragile ends of your hair.
Once you have completed the nightly routine of brushing your hair with 100 strokes, loosely braid it and tie off the ends. This technique will help to lessen the tangles that accumulate during sleep and makes the brushing of long hair easier the next morning, minimizing damage.
Be gentle while brushing your long hair. Don't rush the brush through the tangles. This can break the hair, cause split ends and even pull the hair out by the roots. Always brush gently.
Healthy brushing techniques are must for long hair. Through the proper brushing of your hair, the vital oils are distributed to the ends helping to moisturize the fragile tips.

Post a CommentThanks for the tips. You have beautiful hair.
I like your tip about not brushing long hair when it is wet. My daughter's hair is really long and it always seems useless to try to brush it while it is wet.
Great tips, I finally have long hair to the middle of my back after many years of short hair. Love that I can just brush and brush and it just shines, even with the white hair mixed among the blond. HUGs Mary
