Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers Ziti & Meat Sauce: Food Review:

A Quick, Easy and Delicious Meal

Jill P. Viers
I love pasta. I could eat some kind of noodles with some kind of sauce for virtually every meal. While I am usually satisfied making a pasta meal at home for dinner, there are times when I want a delicious pasta meal available to me at the office (and I want it cheap and relatively healthy).

So, you can imagine that I was pleased to find the new Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers in the dry foods and pasta aisle (not even a freezer item) at the local Kroger. I have always liked Healthy Choice products and I often buy the frozen meals, especially the ones that cook in the steam basket. However, it is just easier sometimes to buy a dry meal and keep it in my desk instead of taking up space in the already-shoved-to-the-brim office freezer.

There are a few flavor choices of the Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers, and they are available with pasta or rice. I bought two of the pasta varieties and two rice varieties for my husband (he likes rice; I'm not a big fan). I decided to try out the Ziti & Meat Sauce variety first and I am happy I did!

First of all, it is so easy to cook. You cook the noodles, then drain out the water with the handy little strainer that is provided as a lid on top of the entree. Then, you heat the sauce for 30 seconds, pour it on the noodles, and enjoy a pretty tasty pasta dish from the microwave.

I was very impressed with the rich flavors of the sauce and meat. The noodles cooked through evenly as well. All in all, I was quite pleased with my tasty and easy meal.

I spent $3.99 on this dish. Considering the ease of preparation and great taste, I think this is a fair price. The Ziti & Meat Sauce dish has 340 calories (50 from fat), 600 mg sodium, 8 g fiber, 56 g carbohydrates, 10 g sugar, plus Vitamins A and C, iron, and calcium.

I definitely recommend buying this product for a quick and tasty meal. On a scale of 1 to 10, compared to most store-bought entrees, I would give this a 9. It doesn't taste like the typical dried-out attempt at making an easy product. It actually tastes like real food.
