Healthy Christmas Snacks to Thrive By

Christmas Snacks for a Healthy Holiday

Lyn Vaccaro

Healthy Christmas snacks aren't too difficult to prepare and don't have to be too obscure if you read on to gain some healthy Christmas snack awareness that nourishes rather than works to deplete your body this holiday season.

Raw Date and Walnut Balls

Start by using equal parts dates to walnuts, depending on how many you'd like to prepare. Soak the walnuts for at least 4 hours. Once that's complete, drain the water and place the nuts along with the dates in your food processor. Then process until the walnuts are chopped into small pieces and the substance is of a thick and chunky pasty consistency. Remove from the processor and form into circular balls.

You can also use other nuts for this recipe depending on your nut preference. Pecans are always a great choice, and I've found that raw cashews are nice in combination with the dates as well. If you need a more inexpensive nut, try raw sunflower seeds. They do a great job in the recipe too.

Red and Green Peppers with Walnut or Pecan Pate

To prepare a fabulous nut pate using either walnuts or pecans, start by soaking your nuts for at least 4 hours or longer, using as many nuts as you think you'll need. Next, drain the nuts, rinse well, and process in the food processor along with garlic and onion to taste. You can add a bit of fresh parsley to create some color as well.

Just surround your nut pate with a vibrant combination of fresh red and green pepper strips to commemorate the Christmas season and serve. This is a striking, eye catching snack that's loaded with nutrients to nourish you and yours.

Carob Laced Banana Smoothies

Who doesn't think of Christmas snacks without thinking of chocolate? Chocolate has some healthy attributes, but if you'd like to avoid the caffeine in it, consider using carob powder, rather than cocoa powder in your next favorite banana smoothie recipe. Banana and carob are as great a combination as bananas and chocolate without the theobromine and caffeine content, both stimulants that don't agree with a lot of people.
