Healthy Eating Options Around the Charlotte Airport

Susan Brown
When you are arriving in Charlotte, North Carolina via the Charlotte Douglas Airport, you are probably going to be a little bit hungry especially considering the lack of goodies the planes have to offer anymore as well as the high prices on food concessions inside the airport. But not to worry, it's easy finding a restaurant that can cater to your health-conscious hunger! Check out these top picks of restaurants - some you may not even have heard of - that are around one or two miles from the airport.

Ole Smokehouse Dining Room (just 1.07 miles away)
3000 Yorkmont Rd
(704) 357-1127

This is a really lovely, quaint place that is great around dinner time. It's got an Irish flair to it, and it's very popular with the locals. It's plenty open and airy, with a view of the nearby creek. You will find that after a long, stressful flight, the atmosphere is comforting and cozy. Some healthy eating options to enjoy include lots of fresh fish selections, prepared the way you want it - perhaps with olive oil, broiled? Or perhaps you would like a baked chicken dish with a nice side salad heaped with fresh and crispy vegetables.

Lil' Dino Deli (1.27 miles away)
2320 Cascade Pointe Blvd
Charlotte, NC
(704) 424-9727

Really great if you are arriving around lunch time. Healthy eating options include a sandwich prepared the way you want it (try their turkey on wheat), perhaps on a bagel, or enjoy a salad with all the trimmings you love back home. The staff is always very friendly with the nice Southern hospitality you would expect when landing the city of Charlotte.

Park Presley Restaurant (2.6 miles away)
740 Pressley Rd
(704) 525-9393

Lots of healthy and tasty homemade soups to enjoy whether you are coming into town around lunch time or dinner time. Their portions are huge, and if you order a regular entree you can also get the soup or dessert free with the meal. They have an extensive menu, with lots of items that are baked and not fried for those conscious of eating healthy. It's kind of like down home good cooking, but it can be prepared to your specifications.

Of course, there are lots of places in Charlotte to eat healthy. If you don't mind venturing further from the airport, there are plenty of Indian restaurants, along with other ethnicities that offer lots of vegetarian and healthy selections. And there are a surprising number of vegetarian restaurants littered throughout Charlotte. However, if you don't want to stray very far from the airport then the above restaurants may just be what you're looking for! Enjoy your stay in Charlotte!

I am looking for a restaurant near the airport for dinner tomorrow night with friends flying into Charlotte for a layover. Ole Smokehouse Dining Room, reviewed by you all 3/9/10, sounded perfect. The phone number you have listed, and the same one given on their website has been disconnected. Could they have gone out of business in just over one week? Do you all, or can you find any information about this?
    Thanks!
