Healthy Food Review: Healthy Choice Grilled Whiskey Steak Cafe Steamer Frozen Entree

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer Review

Paul Bright
Since I was satisfied with my last Healthy Choice meal, I decided to give another one of their frozen entrees a shot. This time, at the suggestion of another Associated Content writer, I decided to attempt eating a Healthy Choice Café Steamer. And to be honest, when she mentioned it, I thought she was talking about coffee.

From looking at the box, the Healthy Choice Café Steamers are yet another meal with a fancy contraption in it. This time you don't unwrap the plastic because your meal is in a bowl that is sitting about a half inch on top of some frozen sauce in a plate. The concept is that as the meal cooks, the sauce "steams" the meat and vegetables. When it's done, you dump your food into the sauce and enjoy. Would all this technology and added packaging actually add to the flavor of the meal, or is it just another way to distract me from the heart of the food?

Appearance and Nutrition. The set up is definitely alluring. My food is supposedly going to be steamed with flavor. I decided if it was going to push the Healthy Choice Café Steamer to the limit and picked the Grilled Whiskey Steak flavoring. Upon opening the package I was impressed with the size of the steak bites. They looked good enough to fill me for lunch on top of some corn, potato slices, carrots and green beans.

Each serving comes with 250 calories with only 40 from fat. I'm guessing the fat is in the sauce. In addition to the low-calorie count, there are 14 grams of sugar, 18 grams of protein, and 6 grams of dietary fiber and 34 grams of carbs. You'll have to watch your salt intake because the Healthy Choice Grilled Whiskey Steak Café Steamer has 580 milligrams of sodium which is almost a quarter of what you need for the day. However the cholesterol level is pretty low at 30 milligrams.

Taste. I can't believe I'm actually typing this, but the Healthy Choice Grilled Whiskey Steak Café Steamer is absolutely, positively delicious. The vegetables were crispy, the meat was tender, but the sauce was the highlight. It was absolutely full of flavor. I don't know if I would call it whiskey flavoring, but it was definitely tart and perfect for the meal. I'm not sure if the nifty steaming contraption had anything to do with the overall meal, but I didn't care. This was a winner.
