Exercising every day, switching off between muscle training and cardiovascular activity is best. Food wise, assuming that an average woman eats 2000 calories a day, pregnancy demands that she eats about 300 more calories. To start losing fat while breastfeeding, cut the 300 calories, but no more. In order for the baby to get the proper nutrients, you must not cut calories dramatically. Once you are no longer breastfeeding, you may eat 1500-1800 calories a day, varying with your hunger and physical activity. Never deny yourself food if you are hungry; this will decrease your energy levels and unable you to function normally. Eating in small portions and every few hours allows your metabolism to increase and lose excess weight more easily. There are several foods that will also help with fat loss.
Your diet should focus on natural foods and minimizing consumption of junk food. Junk food may taste good, but it will give you energy for just a short period of time and no nutrients. When it comes to the amount of fat in natural foods, it is ok for the number to be more than you expected. There are "healthy fats" that will actually help you lose pregnancy weight faster! These can be found in nuts, oils (olive, canola), and fish.
If you are exercising, your body needs protein to build muscles and fuel your body. Increasing your muscle mass will allow your body to burn more fat when you are just sitting down or sleeping. Don't be afraid to be sore the next day, but make sure you warm up and stretch before exercising. The necessary protein you will need can be found in many dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese) and meats (chicken breast, turkey breast, beef). Nuts and fish also have lots of protein. Drinking a protein shake or eating a protein bar directly after your workout works best. Protein bars can be high in fat grams (the unhealthy kind), so check the nutrition facts before you buy. Ideally, less than 5g would be best. Power Bars are great because most only have 3.5g of fat in each bar.
Lastly, vegetables and fruits need to be included in your diet. They give your body natural sources of nutrients and energy. By eating a few of these a day, you will find yourself to be more alert and have a better mood. Also, vegetables and fruits have some fiber in them so you will feel full quicker, so you will eat less. The calorie amounts are very low in vegetables as well so you may eat however much you need to.
Knowing how to lose pregnancy weight is simple, but dedication and motivation will allow you to reach your goal. Try working out with a loved one to keep you going longer and burning more calories. Eating outside will also boost your mood and make you aware of what you are eating.
Good luck! You can do it!
