Healthy Hair Begins with a Healthy Diet

If you want shiny, strong, vibrant hair it is a must to eat a balanced, healthy diet. A healthy diet results in healthy cell growth that affects your hair, nails and skin. Without the right balance of foods your hair can become dull and brittle no matter how many expensive shampoos and conditioners you use. So think from the inside out and eat a variety of the foods from the list described below for vibrant, healthy hair.

Water - Drink plenty of water to keep your hair moisturized. Hair that is moisturized from the inside is supple, thicker and won't dry out.

Eggs and Poultry - Your hair needs plenty of protein to keep it bouncy and shiny. Eating high-protein foods like chicken, turkey and eggs are essential for vibrant color and shine.

Nuts and Salmon - Foods like Salmon and nuts contain the all important Omega-3 fatty acids that help to keep the scalp conditioned so you can grow healthy hair. Zinc is also an ingredient in many nuts like almonds and pecans and helps to keep your hair from shedding.

Vegetables - Vegetables, especially dark green ones like broccoli, contain vitamins A and C which helps produce sebum, an oily substance in the hair follicles that helps to keep the hair moisturized.

Copper - This mineral is all important for giving your hair vibrant color. Eat foods such as shellfish, seeds and nuts to get the recommended amounts of copper in your diet.

Whole Grains - Whole grain foods are full of great vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc and B vitamins. These are necessary for building shiny, strong hair.

Dairy Products - Dairy products such as yogurt, low-fat milk and cottage cheese are packed with calcium and protein to help build strong, healthy hair. Some even contain casein and whey, high-protein ingredients for beautiful hair.

Avoid fad diets that limit the foods you eat and make sure to have a little from each food group each day. Eating healthy will not only make you feel good - it will make your hair beautiful too.
