Healthy Halloween Trick or Treat Items

Shawna Straub
Every Halloween I go through the same mad rush to figure out what to give away in Trick or Treat Bags that's a little bit different than the rest of the neighborhood. I also try to find something that is not only unique but healthy for a change and sometime completely unrelated to food.

With so many safety scares with candy and the infamous popcorn balls I've chosen another angle that seems to be fun, popular, and easy to do.

Idea #1 - Mini Flash Lights

Mini Flash Lights are easy find and can be ordered online at a fair price at Oriental Trading Company. They are $7.00 for 12 lights and are Halloween themed. At just 60 cents each it's a fun alternative to candy and a great way to light up their journey.

Idea #2 - Toothbrushes

You don't have to be a dentist to give out a cute toothbrush with Halloween flair! At 32 cents each these toothbrushes come in orange with a Halloween design and will be a reminder to kids to keep up good dental hygiene even though they are gorging themselves on sugar.

Idea #3 - Chips

I actually am pretty popular in my neighborhood as the "chip" lady. I purchase a Lays variety pack and give out a bag of chips to each child. It's easy because it's one per customer and it seems "big." It takes up lots of room in their treat bag and is not as hard on the tummy or teeth.

Idea #4 - Stickers

Halloween stickers are a fun treat and you can even find some that glow in the dark. The stickers I like come 75 to a roll for $5.99 and you can give a couple out and watch the kids enjoy seeing them light up. It's nice to couple the stickers with the toothbrushes or flashlights as well for an extra special treat.

Idea #5 - Glow in the dark bouncy balls

These balls are probably my favorite item because everyone gets just one and they are 48 for $5.99 which is a steal. At only 12 cents per ball everyone has fun, stays healthy, and gets a little exercise!
