Two years ago, while at the verge of my wellness challenge with my aged mentor, I caught myself not cutting down on food alone, but finding myself in conscience with my indulgences enforced me to determine her best alternatives.
Healthy Living Package
• A meal is perfectly healthy without soda and canned fruit juices. Instead, complete your meal with fruity liquids such fresh fruit juices (calamansi, cranberry, pineapple, tomato and orange), fresh fruit shakes (avocado, cherry, mango, and apple), red wine or just water.
• Learn to cook flavorful food without using the usual everyday ingredients. Instead of elements like iodized salt, white sugar, cooking oil and flavored broths - which may be harmful to the health - try picking from the grocery store alternatives like mineral salt (rock salt), muscovado sugar, virgin coconut oil and pork or beef carcass for meat dishes and pounded to juice shrimp heads for seafood dishes. We certainly have to get rid of preservatives and chemicals to keep our system healthy.
• Cutting down on early cravings specially steering away from too much carbohydrate which means saying no to your daily supply of bread in the morning. Instead, get hooked to a healthy breakfast of fresh fruits (banana, apple, and papaya), a cup of hot cream (chocolate, milk or tea), a piece of cooked egg, and a slice of ham under the tenderness of sunshine if necessary.
• Say goodbye to your favorite snack treats such chocolate chips and flavorful breads to reduce sugar intake. But be thrilled to this easy alternative -try baking bread and muffins using whole wheat flour or otherwise pick whole wheat bread creations over bake hubs. Well, it's more satisfying enough to enjoy your snack with hot coffee, cold tea, fresh milk or water. Convince yourself again not to quench thirst with soft drinks. Well, it's wellness so live with it please.
• Believe in vegetables. They are the most vital source of vitamins and nutrients needed by our body. They too possess a hundred percent natural elements that could protect our body from common illnesses. Why spend a lot for capsulated vitamins which in the first place they're entirely processed and introduced with no absolute therapeutic claim? Sickness is the peak of life, I guess. To realize that science is still not enough to make things well the second time around, but believing the saying "Prevention is better than cure" takes us to the role of the oldest tradition - herbal. Vegetables can taste great when used with the right combination of herbs - herbs sometimes from our own backyard makes a combination of green and leafy meal tasty.
• Buy this kitchen bad thrift tips I learned from my father's Romanian friend. He would always complain that his mother-in-law is killing him softly by cooking his meal using slightly used oil. Well, frugality explains it all for us Filipinos. And there are those oils claiming to be harmless still to be used as long as it color remains clear. Consider the burnt pigments of a lamb or a grilled pork belly believed contain cancer causing carcinogens which basically causes our system to silently deteriorate. Same with the over-cooked smallest or even unseen particles present in our recycled oil as it is continuously put over heat. Thus, getting rid of delectable grilling and using ordinary oil once may perhaps certainly reduce our awful luck to cancer.
• The presence of rice in our meal is satisfying but fills you out entirely with so much carbohydrate if unmeasured. Two cups would be enough at lunch time and a cup at dinner time. Experiment to practically create a dish out of rice making it a whole meal itself. Flavor it with peas, raisins, assorted vegetables, and nuts; you won't need anything else for a costly side dish.
• Love seafood especially fish. Like meat, poultry, milk, and eggs, fish are an excellent source of high-quality proteins with sufficient amount of all the essential amino acids. Most fish have less fat than most meats per serving, and the fats in fish are less saturated. This is where you can survive with the activities you're body engages to everyday.
• Some people couldn't live without desserts. They're the sweetest of everything and the most fulfilling taste of every meal. Were you a kind of person who may perhaps resist the smell of tiramisu, the smoothness of an ice cream or the wander of a salad? Neither I. Here's the secret, allow yourself eating too much of your cravings during noon time and you're body will have a lot of time transforming your intake into something useful for the whole afternoon. Doing something is a kind of exercise. Walking, talking, making ourselves in the mirror, or bending over to pick something on the floor unknowingly burns fat accumulated in our body.
• The night time will not be very hard if you've had perfectly fitted your day with the healthy living challenge. Eat what is just enough for your stomach, read a book or watch your favorite television sitcom and sleep in time. Sleeping at least eight hours every day rests your system and calms your spirit for another day. Wake up ahead of the sun, look at yourself in the mirror and discover something different in your face. I just had to tell everyone else that eating right makes me feel lighter and better.
• This challenge is not entirely frustrating. Package your every week with a one day feast-try Sunday partying over a smorgasbord of delicious stuffs, and a day to fast - try eating nothing in one day. My evangelist friend acknowledges the time of God by fasting, feeding herself for five days with water alone. And she lived. Try it! A day without food won't kill you.
The life expectancy of a person is affected by a wide variety of factors such as diet, stress, emotional state, type of cancer and the patient's family's disease history. The calculation of a person's life expectancy is not accurate all of the time because the calculations are made on some form of statistical analysis of a large group of people, which may not be applicable to you at all. No two people are alike and you may exercise your free will by making better choices to improve your situation.
I dared to accomplish this, and she often than not had given me a passing grade. At least thanks to her, my kitchen has somewhat flourished and my figure is just well to assess. And though, personally find this healthy living challenge breakable, I am most guarded and reminded guilty of my habits any time of the day. I care about my tomorrow. And being healthy or sickly has something to do with the kind of life it would be when that time comes.
