Healthy Lunch Idea for Kids

Juliegirl

Trying to come up with healthy meal ideas that your kids will actually like can be challenging. But lunch time does not always have to be a struggle. This article will go over several lunch ideas that are healthy and tasty too!

Kids seem to like foods that crunch and that are colorful. They also tend to love ranch dressing. Cut up vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and carrots are great for dipping in ranch dressing. They don't even realize they are eating healthy food.

I suggest to stay away from pre packaged foods like lunchables and TV dinners. They are loaded with preservatives, sodium and calories. Definitely the least healthiest choice you can make.

Cut up and sliced fruit is another great way for your kids to eat healthy and enjoy it! You can make a fruit dip or use low fat cool whip for dipping. Kids love finger foods so anything you can toss in the lunch box they can easily grab will be a hit.

Sandwiches are another great lunch idea. Usually turkey deli meat is lower in calories, but you still need to watch the brand you buy. Try to avoid nitrates and nitrites which are often found in packaged deli meats. I used to buy Hormel Natural Choice. I do realize this still may not be the healthiest, but compared to the other choices probably the better choice. Grilling or broiling your own meat for sandwiches is probably the best way.

Light tuna in water with light mayo on whole wheat bread is a good choice. You could even do chicken salad, homemade of course! The old stand by, peanut butter and jelly, is always a great choice! I don't think a PB&J will ever go out of style.

Let's not forget what to drink. Definitely sodas and high calorie drinks are not a good choice. Water, juice and sometimes tea, would be better.

Other snack type foods you can throw into a lunch box would be pretzels, graham crackers, trail mix (my kids love the one with the m&m's) it gives them a little sweet but not too much. Yogurt is good!Burritos are a hit in my house. You can make mini burritos by using flour tortillas, bean and cheese. So simple yet so tasty! Your kids will love them!Kids seem to love cheese! You can find low fat cheese sticks. They are perfect for the lunch box and are another great finger food.

Lunch time doesn't have to be a struggle or a challenge everyday, and eating healthy doesn't have to break the bank. A little planning will go a long way on the road to healthy eating.
