As parents, we all worry about our kids eating healthy. Though schools are trying to get to the point where they serve all healthy food, sometimes it isn't the healthiest for our kids. If your child carries their lunch to school, it is up to you to pack a healthy lunch for your child. So, you may be in search of healthy meals your child can carry to school with them. That is why I am putting together this list to help you out. I will sort these into three categories; main food, snacks and drinks.
Main Food Ideas
So, for the main course, there are a couple of things you can fix. Sandwiches are usually the most preferred, but you will want to fix a sandwich that is healthy. For starters, buy wheat bread or pita bread. Then you can fix things like tuna salad sandwich, low fat ham sandwich, or peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If your child has access to a microwave, you can also send the new spaghetti & meatballs or raviolis with them. They have the new ones that are healthy for your children and contain vegetables.
Snack Food Ideas
Next up is our snacks. You have way more options when it comes to snacks than what you had with the main food. If your child likes fruits, that would be the quickest and easiest way to go. You could put an orange, banana, or apple in their lunch box. If they don't care for fruit, you can purchase the 100 calorie packs of snacks and put one in their box. The 100 calorie snacks have cookies, brownies and more available. You can find these at any grocery store or Wal-Mart. Sugar free cookies are also a good option. You can find these at many stores like your local grocer, Wal-Mart, Dollar General and Family Dollar.
Drink Ideas
Now we will discuss the drink ideas that are healthy for your child. We all know that water is the best, but not all kids like water. So, if your child is one of the few that likes water, pack them a bottle of water in their lunch box. Other options would be to add flavor to the water. There are many different types of flavoring that can be added to water. If your child doesn't like plain water, find the flavoring pouches and send them to school along with a bottle of water with your child. Another option you can look at is juices with no artificial flavoring and low in sugar.
