Healthy No Bake Snacks Kids Can Make

Alicia Bodine
Make sure your children are eating healthy so they have the energy to complete school work and participate in after-school activities. One way to get children interested in healthy eating is to teach them to make snacks themselves. Younger children will not be allowed to use an oven so no-bake snack recipes should be given to them.

Strawberry Yogurt Pie

Children can make yogurt pie without any adult help. Start by opening an individual serving size graham cracker pie crust. Have the child mix a 6 ounce strawberry banana yogurt with 1/4 of a cup of fat free whipped cream. She can then spread the mixture in the pie crust. Cut three strawberries in half and use them to decorate the top of the pie. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until your child is ready to eat.

Healthy Shake

Tell children that they are going to use a blender to make a delicious shake. Using a blender means never sticking your hand directly in the blender. They can pour things in the top and then close the lid and push the blend button. Give your child a 6 ounce container of blueberry yogurt, 4 ice cubes, 10 frozen cranberries, 2 strawberries, 1/2 of a banana, 4 tablespoons of pineapple juice, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Have him place all of these ingredients in the blender, cover the blender, and then push the blend button. Blend for 30 seconds or until the ice has been completely blended. Serve immediately or put in the freezer for a frozen dessert.

Delicious Banana Split

Make some strawberry Jello ahead of time and let it set. Help your child measure out one cup of the Jello and then put it in a bowl. Then give them a banana to peel and cut in half. She can use a butter knife which is pretty safe. Show her how to place one half of the banana on each side of the jello. She can then place three dollops of fat free whipped cream in the center of the bowl. Top each dollop with a cherry and serve immediately. She could also drizzle some crushed pineapples with their juice over the whipped cream instead.

Vegetable Delight

The night before your child needs a snack have them combine 1/2 of a packet of vegetable soup mix and an 8 ounce container of sour cream. Once combined, the mixture will need to go in the refrigerator overnight. The next day have your child get out the mixture and place half of it in one bowl and half of it in another bowl. Then add 2 ounces of shredded carrots to each bowl. You can purchase them already shredded in the grocery store. Next, cut up one whole cucumber and have it chopped with a little chopping device. If you don't have one you can cut them in to tiny cubes. Place half of the chopped cucumber in each bowl. Take half of an onion and grate it with a cheese grater so the pieces of onion are fine. Split it up and put half in each bowl. Finally, chop up 2 cups of lettuce into bite-sized pieces. A chopping device can do this for children easily so that they don't have to use a knife. Place one cup of chopped lettuce into each bowl and then mix the bowls up. The sour cream mixture makes the chopped vegetables fun to eat.
