Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Road trips can be enjoyable when you are traveling with family or friends. Getting to see new sights or simply going to visit a loved one who lives out of town can be a pleasant change of pace.

However, most people will admit that it can be a challenge to eat well while on the road. In this article, the author will provide suggestions for healthy snacks that are portable, mess free, and easy to enjoy during a road trip.

1. Apples - This delicious fruit is low fat, contains lots of fiber, helps to regulate blood sugar, and tends to be well-loved by adults and children alike. The author's favorite type of apple is the gala.

2. Bananas - This yummy fruit is a great source of potassium and has a soft consistency that makes it safe for consumption even for the youngest of eaters.

3. Almond or peanut butter crackers - This treat contains protein and helps to curb one's appetite between meals.

4. Raisins - These little jewels are a wonderful source of iron and help to satisfy one's sweet tooth naturally.

5. Cascadian Farms Organic Chewy Granola Bars - These delectable goodies are made from organic ingredients, are low fat, and come in a variety of flavors. This author's favorite kind is the chocolate chip ones.

6. Trail mix - This high energy, nutritious snack is packed with vitamins and minerals and can stay fresh for an extended period of time. Too, it is easily dissectible, so that even the pickiest of eaters can get the ingredient that he or she likes best.

7. Vegetable chips - These delicious dehydrated veggies are excellent for a road trip. They contain lots of nutrients, do not spoil, and have a lovely crunch to them.

8. Newman's Own Honey Wheat Mini Pretzels - These pretzels are simply scrumptious. This author and her two-year-old son can simply devour a bag of them in no time.

9. Cascadian Farms Organic Honey Nut O's - These little goodies are perfect for little hands and big hands alike to enjoy. Simply put several servings of them into Ziploc bags, and everyone can enjoy their share.

10. Raw or roasted pumpkin seeds - These small nutritional powerhouses are loaded with zinc, protein, magnesium, and iron. With the fall season and pumpkin harvesting time fast approaching, you can even roast your own pumpkin seeds at home.

11. Raw or tamari almonds - These protein-laden nuts are a favorite travel snack of this author's husband. The tamari flavor is simply awesome.

12. Organic baby carrots and celery - These crunchy veggies are loaded with vitamins and minerals and have a fresh taste. It is recommended that these be stored in a small cooler if possible to help maintain freshness.

13. Dried fruit - This sweet natural dessert is wonderful to enjoy while on a road trip. This author's and her family's favorites are the dried forms of mango, apples, bananas, and apricots.

14. Organic cereal bars - These yummy bars are great for breakfast or for enjoyment any time of day. They come in a multitude of flavors and are nutritious.

15. Yummy Earth lollipops - These flavorful candies are made from all natural ingredients and are available in all sorts of flavors. They can be found at most natural foods stores or can be order from www.yummyearth.com.

By taking along these appealing belly pleasers on the trip, you will not have to stop nearly as often - just an occasional potty break here and there. Too, when you reach your anticipated destination, you will have the energy to have fun.
