Make sure your pet cat has an annual check-up with the vet. Just as we need to see the doctor every once in a while, your pet cat also needs to pay a visit to the vet. This visit is not only when your pet cat is sick, but even when everything seems to be OK. This is to make sure that everything with your cat is indeed OK, and is also helpful in the early detection and diagnosis of any conditions your pet cat may be suffering from. Remember, prevention is always better than cure.
Get your pet cat vaccinated. Vaccines for common diseases that cats suffer from ensure that your cat will not get infected and suffer from those diseases. This is pretty much taking the extra step towards your pet cat's health.
Feed your pet cat healthy food. A talk with your vet will help you decide on which cat food will be best for your pet. There are some table foods that should not be fed to pet cats, as these do not meet the nutrients that your pet cat needs and can also be poisonous. Some examples of these would be onions, chocolate, tomatoes, cheese, and coffee grounds. Make sure that your pet cat does not get to eat these foods as they fall off the table.
Keep bug sprays and other poisonous items away from your pet cat's reach. Similar to what you would do when you have children around, making sure that bleach and bug sprays are located in a place your pet cannot get to. It is best to invest in a child-safety lock to keep the pet cat from opening cabinet doors or tie a cord to the handles to make them tamper-proof.
Having a pet is a rewarding responsibility. Making sure that your pet cat has all his basic needs and taking care of his health ensures that you have a loving pet for many years to come. Aside from the basic needs your pet has, your pet cat also needs loving care and attention from you. So don't forget to give your pet a hug or a nice treat once you get home!
