This recipe includes ingredients that will fill your children with a healthy assortment of fruit, fiber, protein, and antioxidants. As a parent, I know the importance of these things in my children's diet. I also understand the difficulty sometimes involved with convincing them to eat food that is healthy. The secret to this healthy snack food recipe is that kids love the taste so much they forget it's good for them! In fact, I had little hands grabbing for this trail mix before I could even finish making it.
What you'll need:
Large mixing bowl
Honey-nut Cheerios (2 cups)
Chopped dates (1/4 cup)
Golden raisins (1/4 cup)
Dried cranberries (1/2 cup)
Yogurt raisins (1/2 cup)
Banana chips (2 cups)
Mixed nuts (1 1/2 cups)
In a large bowl, combine the Honey-nut Cheerios and chopped dates. Mix them together and then add the golden raisins, dried cranberries, and yogurt raisins. Again, stir the trail mix. Now add the banana chips and mixed nuts to the mixture. I've found the best way to ensure the ingredients are well-blended, is to give the trail mix one final toss using your hands.
This healthy snack food recipe makes 8 cups (2 quarts) of trail mix. I usually keep the mix in small storage bags. This makes it easy for the kids to grab a bag on the go or to toss in a lunch box.
The great thing about making your own trail mix is you can tailor this recipe to your kids. If someone is allergic to an ingredient, you can make substitutions. Also, I sometimes make each of my children their own unique trail mix, including their favorite items. Having a special bag of mix with a child's own name on it makes it a prized treat. Hey, whatever it takes to get kids eating healthier, right?

yum!!!
yum, I love trail this stuff
What a great idea! It does seem that if children are trained early on to accept healthy food that they will grow up with that instilled in them.
