Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids

Melina Ann Collison
With schools going to healthier snacks and the American public becoming more concerned with watching their weight healthy snack ideas can run short. You want to offer a variety of foods to your children that are going to meet the recommended food groups for the day. No child wants to eat the same thing over and over day after day. Here are 5 great ideas for healthy snacks.

Celery with Peanut Butter, Cheddar Cheese Chunks, and Milk

Most children do not like to eat their vegetables. Try adding a favorite topping to the veggies to help their appeal. Provide ranch dipping sauce, cream cheese filling, or top the celery with peanut butter. Do not spend the money on pre cut cheddar cheese chunks. Buy a block of your child's favorite type of cheese and then cut pieces to size. This saves you money and you have control on how big the pieces are. Milk is full of vitamins and nutrients to build strong bones and provide the body with calcium.

Turkey Breast Slices Rolled with a Slice of Cheese, Fresh Baby Carrots, and a 100% Juice Box

The deli has fresh cut turkey breast slices that are healthy and delicious. Roll one piece of turkey with a slice of cheese and you got yourself a healthy snack. Add a piece of lettuce or throw some tomato slices in the middle to spice things up. Throw in some carrots and a 100% juice box. Ensure the juice box contains no additives and is 100% pure juice. Added sugars and some preservatives only add calories to the snack.

Apple Slices with Peanut Butter, Animal crackers, and Orange Juice Box

Apple slices are a big hit with little hands. Easy to grab, hold, and bite. Provide some peanut butter for dipping, plus the protein is an added bonus. Animal crackers are fun and will add a smile to your child's face seeing the little giraffes, monkeys, and elephants. Orange juice is full of vitamin C which we need to help stay healthy.

Cracker Sandwiches, Banana, and Chocolate Milk

Provide crackers, slices of cheese, and slices of meat for your child to build their own sandwiches with. Provide them with whatever their favorite meets and cheeses are. Add in a banana for a serving of fruit. Some children will not drink white milk. Chocolate milk is a good substitute. Try sticking with low fat milk to cut back on calories.
