Healthy Stress Relieving Techniques

Stressful situations can overwhelm anyone in any situation. Some of us know what works and what doesn't. Usually the easiest and most obvious techniques are over looked. Dealing with your stress to keep a handle on life is up to you.

There are many techniques that you can utilize in virtually every situation and place. One of the most common is counting slowly to ten. When you are about to blow your top and can feel your blood pressure rising, start to count. Incorporated with the counting are breathing techniques.

When you are stressed or angry, your breathing becomes shorter and erratic. Controlling your breathing to long, deep breaths while counting will slow down your pulse and focus your attention on something else. Breathing exercises will also aid in reducing anxiety.

Eating healthy foods and regular exercise works wonders for your endorphins. Exercise can be something as simple as taking a brisk walk and getting some fresh air. Getting yourself in a routine to better your physical health can make you feel better on multiple levels.

An added benefit of taking a walk is getting some alone time. Once a day everyone should have at least 30 minutes of "me" time to unwind. It doesn't matter if you are a stay at home parent or a big CEO. Not getting enough individual time to yourself will cause more stress since you don't have time to just let go.

Venting your daily stresses is important. A truly confidential way to express yourself is in a private journal. With your journal, you don't have to worry about what you say or if it's going to spread like wildfire. Gossip in itself is a high stressor. Your boss and co-workers are getting on your case and hoping the new girl gets fired is something better kept quiet.

Take your daily woes out on paper while you take a nice hot bath. Turn your cell phone off and take the home phone off the hook. Pour in some lavender or vanilla oil and light some scented candles. Aroma therapy can help tame those tense nerves. Added with the hot water to relax your muscles head to toe, you are untouchable.

Remembering to breath and to take time out for yourself in combination with exercise and personal time, you will find your stress levels lower. Carrying less stress will make you a much happier person who can enjoy the little things in life instead of letting them take over.
