Healthy Summer Foods & Drinks
Tomatoes - Tomatoes are a summer favorite and they are also packed with plenty of Vitamin A and C. Researchers found that those who added a large amount of tomatoes to their regular diet were less likely to develop prostate or digestive tract cancers. This is primarily because tomatoes contain a nutrient called Lycopene which prevents several types of cancers. Tomatoes are quite delicious and extra low in calories and a good food to add to your summer weight loss plan.
Peppers - Peppers have a high Vitamin C & A content. They also contain a large amount of antioxidants which help boost the immune system. Grill a few peppers and serve with your main course. And enjoy a low calorie treat.
Beans - Beans are packed with nutrients and fiber that help with weight loss or to maintain your weight. Try substituting your favorite beans for meat to keep calories low during the day.
Watermelon - This is a great low calorie snack to have on a hot summer day. Why? It is cool and refreshing and very low in calories. In fact, most of the watermelon is water and fiber. A great way to quench your summer thirst and satisfy those hunger pains.
Fresh Salads - Fresh salads grown in the garden are a good way to receive proper nutrition and have a healthy low calorie meal. Simply take home grown lettuce, add a tomato, toss in a bit of lemon juice. There you have a very low calorie meal that is very satisfying.
Drinks - No summer weight loss plan would be complete without adding a few select low calorie drinks to enjoy. Low calorie tea, coffee, lemonade drinks, are just the thing to soothe thirst and a sweet tooth. Drink a low calorie drink before eating a meal to reduce hunger pains and eat less later during the meal.
