Healthy Super Bowl Snacks

The Super Bowl Doesn't Have to Lead to a Super Gut

Adam Hughes
The Super Bowl and its associated parties often represent an opportunity for us to continue the holiday season after a month's hiatus. Fatty, sugary, and delicious are the names of the game when it comes to the cuisine usually consumed during the big game. This year, why not turn to these healthy recipes to keep the delicious without all the fat and sugar.

Baked Chicken Wings
Everyone loves to eat wings while watching football, but the fried variety can really load up the calories quickly. As an alternative, try marinating some wings in a light sauce of lemon, wine, vinegar, seasonings, etc., and thenbaking them to browned perfection. They'll taste awesome, and you'll feel better for it in the morning.

White Bean and Yogurt Dip
Boil the beans until soft, add some plain yogurt, and season with some chives. You'll get the perfect sour-cream dip replacement with a fraction of the fat and loads of fiber and protein to boot.

Baked Sweet Potatoes
Lower on the glycemic index than their white counterparts, sweet potatoes pack a nutritional punch and can fill your belly, keeping other cravings at bay. You can load them with veggies, a little low-fat cheese, or spices, and if you crave a crunch, you can overcook the skins a bit.

Chili
Yes, you can have chili and still be eating right. Even some of the commercial brands, like Wendy's, are pretty good nutritional values. If you want to do it yourself, get some lean ground beef, along with veggies and spices to suit your tastes. Here is one good recipe.

Black Bean Fudge
Beans are one of the most versatile foods around, and you can use just about any variety as the base to a delicious fudge recipe. Here is one of the best, and it's gluten-free, sugar-free, fiber-rich, and still outstanding.
